Recap by phillip woo

Firming favourite Fay Fay recovered quickly after a sluggish break to settle three back and two-to-three deep with cover at the 1,400m, straightened nearly six wide short of room, shifted inside for a clear run three-off the fence at the 150m and stretched out well to take control 50m out for the win with a step up in grade and trip. Dragon Fighter sat directly to the outside of the leader Turf Express, worked to the lead 350m out and just held Best City by a head-bob for second. Punted late, Best City was caught no better than three-or-four deep with moderate cover, kept the favourite pocketed while straightening six-to-seven deep and stayed on well, despite the hard run. He's got more improvement to come. Zaidan settled fourth from the rear and near the inside, switched off heels of Best City into the clear with two wider out at the 300m and ran on well off a big weight to fill the frame in fourth. Semos made his run second from the rear, straightened six deep and ran on well with a return to the races with blinkers. Turf Express dictated an even clip, straightened narrowly on top and lost a placing in the final 100m. Algarve camped just behind the leaders in fourth along the inside, cornered in four deep and kept on one-paced over the final 150m. Easy winner made his run third from the rear and three deep and was making ground down the outside late. King Of Scots went back from gate 13 and was making some ground near the inside without threatening. King Of Reason was struggling after a three-deep trip with no cover near the speed.

Racing Incident Report

Race Ten: (184) - CHEK LAP KOK HANDICAP - Class 2 - 1600 Meters FAY FAY was slow to begin.

From the outside barriers, EASY WINNER and KING OF SCOTS were taken across behind runners shortly after the start.

Passing the 1200 Metres, HOT SHOT commenced to over-race and shifted in when being checked away from the heels of DRAGON FIGHTER.

This resulted in ALGARVE, which was racing inside of HOT SHOT, being crowded for room.

HOT SHOT continued to prove difficult to settle following this incident.

Near the 900 Metres, FAY FAY and BEST CITY bumped on a number of occasions as a result of FAY FAY shifting out.

After this, BEST CITY travelled wide and without cover.

After the 600 Metres, SEMOS was awkwardly placed close to the heels of SOARING DRAGON which itself was awkwardly placed close to the heels of FAY FAY.

SEMOS had difficulty obtaining clear running in the early part of the Straight.

Near the 300 Metres, ZAIDAN and TREASURE GOLD bumped as ZAIDAN shifted to the outside of BEST CITY into clear running.

After the 200 Metres, DRAGON FIGHTER got its head on the side and shifted out.

Throughout the race, KING OF REASON travelled wide and without cover and in the Straight gave ground.

A veterinary inspection of KING OF REASON after the race did not show any significant findings.

FAY FAY and DRAGON FIGHTER were sent for sampling.

16 November 2011 Happy Valley Racemeeting - Race 7 (173) The Stewards today interviewed Trainer C Fownes regarding the racing future of AFFLUENCE OF RAIN which reared as the start was effected and struck its head on an overhead bar, resulting in its rider, T Angland, being dislodged.

Mr Fownes was advised that having regard to the previous history of AFFLUENCE OF RAIN in respect of barrier manners, the Stewards ordered that the horse satisfactorily compete in a series of two consecutive official barrier trials before being permitted to race again.

Mr Fownes was advised that should AFFLUENCE OF RAN perform unsatisfactorily in these barrier trials, the Stewards will give consideration to recommending to the Board of Stewards that AFFLUENCE OF RAIN be compulsorily retired.

Mr Fownes was further advised that should AFFLUENCE OF RAIN satisfactorily compete in barrier trials but then be found to have performed unsatisfactorily in any subsequent race, the Stewards will also give consideration to recommending to the Board of Stewards that the horse be compulsorily retired.
