Recap by phillip woo

Early favourite Lucky Turbo enjoyed the box-seat run, swept to the lead one off the fence at the 200m and edged clear for a maiden win at this seventh start to continue the superb run of trainer and jockey. Well-punted late, Secret Of Winning gave a good sight on the lead, was on top by a length at the top of the straight and found one better in the dash to the line. He appreciated the step back to the 1,000m. Assure sat one off the fence in second, straightened three deep and whacked away late to just hold third. Debutant Happy Ball was rated behind midfield and two deep, rounded the final bend four-to-five wide, shifted into the clear off the heels of Lucky Red at the 100m and worked home nicely to snare fourth on the line from Wiser, who was posted three deep and fourth from the rear, swung the final bend with one wider out and ran on well. Happy Champion got well back from a wide gate, pushed deepest out upon straightening and was getting going late without threatening. Lucky Red traveled fifth and between runners, hit the straight four deep and only held his ground in the run to the line. Punted late to jump favourite, Huge Profit was rated in midfield and two deep, swung the final bend with two wider out and kept on evenly over the final 150m. Plunged late, Winner Smart missed the kick and was never a threat.

Racing Incident Report

Race One: (204) - PITT HANDICAP - Class 4 - 1000 Meters WINNER SMART, which was fractious in the barriers, bounded in the air at the start, resulting in WINNER SMART losing a considerable amount of ground.

Before being allowed to race again, WINNER SMART will be required to perform satisfactorily in a stalls test.

OVERNIGHT SUCCESS was slow to begin.

When being taken across behind runners shortly after the start, from the outside barrier, HAPPY CHAMPION got its head up on a number of occasions.

Approaching the 800 Metres, HAPPY BALL was steadied away from the heels of HUGE PROFIT which shifted in after being awkwardly placed inside the heels of PILLOWIN.

Approaching the 600 Metres, LUCKY RED commenced to over-race and got its head up when being steadied away from the heels of ASSURE.

After this, LUCKY RED was awkwardly placed close to the heels of ASSURE.

HUGE PROFIT, which was racing behind LUCKY RED, was steadied in consequence.

After the 600 Metres, LUCKY TURBO was steadied away from the heels of SECRET OF WINNING.

Also after the 600 Metres, PILLOWIN was left racing wide and without cover.

A veterinary inspection of HUGE PROFIT after the race revealed that the horse had bled from both nostrils.

After the race, an endoscopic examination was conducted on PILLOWIN at the request of Trainer A T Millard.

The Veterinary Surgeon said this examination showed a substantial amount of blood in the horse's trachea.

Before being allowed to race again, PILLOWIN will be subjected to an official veterinary examination.

HUGE PROFIT, LUCKY TURBO and SECRET OF WINNING were sent for sampling.
