Recap by phillip woo

Firming second choice Groovy jumped better to settle fifth along the fence, drew level for the lead with Moneymaker at the 150m and out-dueled that one to narrowly prevail for the win. Moneymaker enjoyed the box-seat run behind the good fractions injected by Loads Of Joy, shot to the lead 200m out and went down fighting. He's ready to win. Supreme Taiji travelled behind midfield and just off the rails after a sluggish break, straightened two deep, lugged out under pressure at the 100m and kept on reasonably well to finish a distant third. Short-priced favourite Best Eleven missed the start by nearly two lengths, hunted up to settle third from the rear and two-to-three deep at the 1,000m, swung the final bend widest out and was making up good ground late. The Prince punched forward from a wide gate to sit one off the fence in second, rounded the final bend five wide and kept up an even gallop over the last 100m. Loads Of Joy jumped brilliantly from gate 12 to easy clear for the lead, led by nearly three lengths at the 600m, straightened two lengths on top and was coming back to the field over the final 100m. Master Gunner was rated behind midfield and two deep, cornered in four deep and kept on pass beaten runners. Kidconi was caught three deep without cover worse than midfield, took closer order at the 600m, straightened with one deeper out and run peaked 200m out.

Racing Incident Report

Race Six: (209) - THE TUNG WAH GROUP OF HOSPITALS CHALLENGE CUP (HANDICAP) - Class 3 - 1200 Meters Just prior to the start being effected, BEST ELEVEN became fractious and was then slow to begin.

SUPREME TAIJI was slow to begin and then shortly after the start was steadied away from the heels of VILASOL which shifted out after being bumped by GROOVY.

Near the 1100 Metres, CHARMGOLD and MASTER GUNNER were crowded for room between VILASOL and FIVE CLUBS which shifted in after being bumped by KIDCONI.

After the 600 Metres, GROOVY got its head on the side and shifted out towards the heels of FIVE CLUBS.

Near the 400 Metres, FIVE CLUBS raced in restricted room between GROOVY and KIDCONI.

Shortly after entering into the Straight, MASTER GUNNER was awkwardly placed inside the heels of FIVE CLUBS which shifted in slightly.

Throughout the race, KIDCONI travelled wide and without cover.

When questioned, Apprentice C Y Ho (THE PRINCE) said that after the 200 Metres his mount was finishing off the race only one-paced.

He said he used the whip on the horse on a number of occasions but, in his opinion, THE PRINCE was not responding and therefore he elected, over the concluding stages, to put the whip away and ride the horse out hands and heels to the finish.

Apprentice Ho was advised his explanation would be reported, however, he should at all times ride his mounts out to the best of his ability given the circumstances.

A veterinary inspection of KIDCONI after the race did not show any significant findings.

BEST ELEVEN, GROOVY and MONEYMAKER were sent for sampling.
