Recap by phillip woo

My Home Town showed good gate speed to lead before handing up and enjoying the box-seat rounding the first bend, shifted into the clear four deep at the 200m and let down well to take control 100m out for the win. Ambitious Treasure was rated in midfield and one off the fence, swung the final bend six wide and finished nicely to take second ahead of Great Achievement, who made his run behind midfield and two deep, hit the straight with two wider out and ran on willingly late. Favourite Ho Wongchoy went forward to sit second behind the leader Kick Serve, drew level with that one at the 200m and was swamped late for a placing. Well-punted late, Kick Serve dropped anchor soon after rolling forward to lead rounding the first bend from gate 12, straightened a length on top and grudgingly gave way over the last 100m. Plunged late, My Goal settled three back along the fence after jumping with the leaders, stayed to the inside upon straightening and only held his ground without threatening. Debutant Delta Hedge saved ground behind midfield after a sluggish break, rallied one off the fence upon straightening and made some steady ground late near the inside. Moon Chaser made his run second from the rear, swung the final bend widest out and was never a threat.

Racing Incident Report

Race Six: (227) - CATHAY PACIFIC INTERNATIONAL JOCKEYS' CHAMPIONSHIP(HANDICAP) - 3RD LEG (Sec 1) - Class 3 - 1650 Meters SLEEP WELL was slow to begin.

Shortly after the start, ANTIPASTO was crowded for room between SUNRISE which shifted out after being bumped by MY GOAL and LOMBARDI which shifted in.

Passing the winning post on the first occasion, GREAT ACHIEVEMENT was steadied away from the heels of LOMBARDI which itself was momentarily awkwardly placed close to the heels of MY HOME TOWN.

Also passing the winning post on the first occasion, SUNRISE was steadied when tightened for room between GREAT ACHIEVEMENT and AMBITIOUS TREASURE.

When questioned regarding his riding of MY GOAL in the early stages, Y Fukunaga stated that he had been instructed to lead on MY GOAL tonight if possible, however, if horses showed superior speed to his outside, he should obtain a position behind those horses.

He said after making contact with SUNRISE at the start, he rode MY GOAL along to obtain a forward position, however, he observed MY HOME TOWN and HO WONGCHOY being ridden to obtain forward positions.

He said rather than continue to ride MY GOAL along, he elected to steady his mount passing the winning post on the first occasion and obtain a position behind MY HOME TOWN.

Trainer B K Ng advised the Stewards that it was his intention for MY GOAL to lead tonight if possible.

He said he did advise Jockey Fukunaga that if the speed of the race in the early stages was fast, he should steady MY GOAL rather than to be involved in a speed battle.

A veterinary inspection of MOON CHASER after the race did not show any significant findings.
