Recap by phillip woo

Firming favourite Fionn's Treasure was best into stride, before settling fourth along the rails at the 800m, stayed to the fence upon straightening, was tight for room and eventually slipped through inside to run down the clear second choice Bear Hero 10m out to remain unbeaten in two starts with a step up to the 1,400m. He is most promising and remains one to follow. Bear Hero travelled fourth and one-off the fence, moved a position closer at the 800m, swept to the lead three deep at the 200m, lay in under pressure over the final 100m and came up just short in his first crack over 1,400m. Wah May Star punched forward to lead passing the 1,200m through slick early fractions, straightened a length on top in the two-deep position and held third after copping a severe check 50m out. Medallist made his run at the rear and two-to-thee deep, cornered in nearly four wide and fought on gamely to edge out Flying Unicorn for fourth without ever looking a threat of placing. Flying Unicorn worked hard to go forward three deep without cover to settle deep after copping a slight bump at the break, straightened widest out and whacked away one-paced.

Racing Incident Report

Race Two: (249) - THE GRIFFIN TROPHY - Restricted - 1400 Meters CLASSIC JEWELLERY was withdrawn on 16.12.11 by order of the Stewards acting on veterinary advice (substantial amount of mucopus in trachea on scoping after track work).

Before being allowed to race again, CLASSIC JEWELLERY will be subjected to an official veterinary examination.

FLYING UNICORN was slow to begin and shortly after the start was steadied away from the heels of FIONNS TREASURE which shifted in.

After this, FLYING UNICORN travelled three wide and without cover.

Near the 850 Metres, FIONNS TREASURE was awkwardly placed close to the heels of WAH MAY STAR.

After the 200 Metres, FIONNS TREASURE and WAH MAY STAR raced tight inside BEAR HERO which got its head on the side and shifted in.

Over the final 100 Metres, FLYING UNICORN and MEDALLIST raced tight.

B Prebble (BEAR HERO) pleaded guilty to a charge of careless riding [Rule 100(1)] in that passing the 100 Metres he permitted his mount to shift in when not sufficiently clear of WAH MAY STAR, resulting in that horse being severely checked and losing the running to which it was rightfully entitled.

B Prebble was suspended from riding in races for a period to expire on Monday, 9 January 2012 on which day he may resume race riding (2 Hong Kong racedays).

The commencement of the suspension was deferred until after the Sha Tin racemeeting on Sunday, 1 January 2012.

In addition, B Prebble was fined $40,000 in lieu of a suspension for a period incorporating one further raceday.

Near the 50 Metres, FIONNS TREASURE became unbalanced after being bumped by BEAR HERO which shifted in.

In the Straight, MEDALLIST got its head on the side and lay out under pressure.

FIONNS TREASURE and BEAR HERO were sent for sampling.
