Recap by phillip woo

Oyster settled second from the rear and two-to-three deep in the run, straightened three deep with a huge gap to make up, but quickened nicely to get up 30m for the win. Lucky Young Ones was crowded at the start, worked forward to sit directly to the outside of the leader Track Lightning at the 1,000m, assumed the lead 200m out and went down fighting in an encouraging debut performance as the second choice in betting. Croesus travelled in fourth and just off the rails, cornered in four deep and stayed on well off a big weight. He's ready to strike on both surfaces, but may need some claimer relief. Favourite El Grande travelled third from the rear and along the inside, shifted into the clear with three wider out, loomed a major player 150m out, before peaking inside the 100m out. Well-punted late, Track Lightning dictated the running along the fence with Lucky Young Ones and Global Win up pestering him at the 1,000m and was struggling to keep up the gallop. Grey Whizz made his run behind midfield and three deep and kept away one-paced without looking a threat. Rainbow Seeker was back to last and deepest out at the 500m from gate 11, swung the final bend widest out and didn't make much of an impression.

Racing Incident Report

Race Three: (269) - PAK TAM AU HANDICAP - Class 4 - 1200 Meters TRACK LIGHTNING began awkwardly and shifted out, taking BET ON ME out onto LUCKY YOUNG ONES which in turn was taken out onto EL GRANDE, resulting in EL GRANDE, which had been a little slow to begin, being checked away from the heels of GLOBAL WIN which shifted in slightly at the start.

SHANGHAI PIONEER was taken across behind runners soon after the start.

M Barzalona (GREY WHIZZ) pleaded guilty to a charge of careless riding [Rule 100(1)] in that on the first turn near the 700 Metres he permitted his mount to shift in when not clear of EL GRANDE, resulting in that horse being tightened onto the hindquarters of SHANGHAI PIONEER and losing the running to which it was rightfully entitled.

M Barzalona was suspended from riding in races for a period to expire on Thursday, 12 January 2012 on which day he may resume race riding (2 Hong Kong racedays).

The commencement of the suspension was deferred until after the racemeeting to be conducted in Dubai on Friday, 6 January 2012 on which day Jockey Barzalona has accepted an invitation to participate in an International Jockeys Challenge.

After the race, the Veterinary Officer reported that TRACK LIGHTNING had lost its left front plate.

A veterinary inspection of BET ON ME after the race did not show any significant findings.

EL GRANDE, OYSTER and LUCKY YOUNG ONES were sent for sampling.
