Recap by phillip woo

Aashiq was given an uncontested time on the lead through an easier tempo this time around following a third last time out behind Captain Sweet, straightened nearly two lengths on top and kept finding to clearly hold Captain Sweet in the final 50m for the win with a 13-pound weight swing the difference in the end. Captain Sweet travelled sweetly in third and near the rails, rushed up confidently to draw level near the 100m and couldn't pull back the margin late while just holding the fast-finishing Fat Choy Oohlala for second. Fat Choy Oohlala bided his third from the rear and on the rails, stuck to the paint upon straightening and ran on soundly. Admiration settled better than midfield and two deep, rallied four wide and kept on all right without threatening. Sweet Orange bided his time fourth from the rear and three deep, rounded the final bend widest out and really got going late. He appears to be coming right now and must be kept safe next time out. Beauty Flash settled fourth underneath Admiration ahead of midfield and on the rails, shifted into the clear four deep at the 400m and kept up a steady gallop late. He's clearly beyond his better years now and will need rating relief to be competitive off a lighter weight at this level. Penglai Xianzi made his run behind midfield and two deep, swung the final bend three wide and made a decent bid to finish in the thick of things, despite the rise in grade. Sichuan Success was posted three deep in midfield, hit the straight with three deeper out and kept on evenly over the final 150m. Sensationally plunged to jump favourite at the bell, Longwah Supreme made his run second from the rear and two deep, rallied five wide upon straightening, shifted in under pressure at the 250m and was never a threat for his new trainer Caspar Fownes with a step up in grade and trip.

Racing Incident Report

Race Ten: (286) - THE CHINESE CLUB CHALLENGE CUP (HANDICAP) - Hong Kong Group Three - 1400 Meters After being loaded, PENGLAI XIANZI became fractious, reared and momentarily got its right front leg over the adjoining stall.

PENGLAI XIANZI was removed from the stalls and examined by the Veterinary Officer who said in his opinion it was suitable to race.

After this, PENGLAI XIANZI then proved difficult to reload.

Having considered PENGLAI XIANZI's previous record, the Stewards ruled that prior to being permitted to race again, PENGLAI XIANZI will be required to perform satisfactorily in an official barrier trial.

BEAUTY FLASH was slow to begin.

SWEET ORANGE and BRAVE KID bumped at the start.

When being steadied to allow AASHIQ to cross after the 1200 Metres, LEADING CITY got its head up on a number of occasions and proved very difficult to settle.

Close to the finishing line, SICHUAN SUCCESS was steadied when crowded for room between ADMIRATION which shifted out and PENGLAI XIANZI which was taken in by SWEET ORANGE which shifted ground before being corrected by its rider.

Throughout the race, SICHUAN SUCCESS travelled wide and without cover.

G Moss?m pleaded guilty to a breach of Rule 100(2) in that he failed to ride BEAUTY FLASH, 6th placegetter, out to the end of the race to the satisfaction of the Stewards.

Having in mind the circumstances of this case and Jockey Moss?m's prior record in respect of breaches of this Rule, he was fined the sum of $30,000.

When questioned regarding the disappointing performance of LONGWAH SUPREME, M Du Plessis stated that having in mind the horse was stepping up in distance today, he was asked to obtain cover on it and ensure that it was relaxed and settled in the run.

He said after obtaining a position with cover behind PENGLAI XIANZI in the early stages, LONGWAH SUPREME got its head up on a number of occasions passing the 1000 Metres when awkwardly placed close to the heels of PENGLAI XIANZI.

He said after this LONGWAH SUPREME travelled satisfactorily, however, when placed under pressure in the Straight was disappointing in that it did not show any turn of foot rather it finished off the race only one-paced.

After the race, the Veterinary Officer reported that AASHIQ had lost its left front plate.

A veterinary inspection of SICHUAN SUCCESS and LONGWAH SUPREME after the race did not show any significant findings.

LONGWAH SUPREME, AASHIQ and CAPTAIN SWEET were sent for sampling.
