Recap by phillip woo

Favourite Finezza bided his time behind midfield and three deep, rounded the final bend with three wider out and stretched out nicely to get up by the narrowest of margins for back-to-back wins. Aomen travelled in midfield to the outside of Silver Flower, straightened three-to-four deep, ducked inside for a clear run at the 250m, swept to the lead 150m out and went down fighting in a promising debut performance. He'll be hard to beat next time out. Supported late to jump co-favourite, Shiny Day went straight to the front and kept on one-paced for third with a step up to the mile for the first time. Lombardi was posted three deep with cover to the outside of Aomen in the run, straightened underneath Finezza and kept on well to fill the frame. Shifachi Tradition ran on without threatening as usual, despite a stable change to Richard Gibson. Treasure Gold cornered in three deep and kept away one-paced. Rolled-up in the betting, Sydney Power gave way 100m out. Athenium only passed tiring runners, while best-backed late, Master Key was struggling passing the 200m. He failed to see out the trip.

Racing Incident Report

Race Nine: (285) - KOWLOON PEAK HANDICAP - Class 3 - 1600 Meters SCARLET CAMELLIA was withdrawn on 29.12.11 by order of the Stewards acting on veterinary advice (substantial amount of mucopus in trachea on scoping after track work) and was replaced by Standby Declared Starter AOMEN.

Before being allowed to race again, SCARLET CAMELLIA will be subjected to an official veterinary examination.

SILVER FLOWER was slow to begin.

From the outside barrier, ATHENIUM was taken across behind runners shortly after the start.

After the 1400 Metes, TREASURE GOLD commenced to travel keenly and for some distance had to be steadied away from the heels of AOMEN.

After the 1200 Metres, JIMSON THE BEST was left racing wide and without cover.

Approaching the 1100 Metres, MASTER KEY commenced to over-race and got its head up on a number of occasions when awkwardly placed close to the heels of SYDNEY POWER.

Passing the 400 Metres, SUNSHINE DAY was momentarily crowded for room inside SILVER FLOWER and then after the 300 Metres was shifted out away from the heels of IRON EAGLE.

A veterinary inspection of MASTER KEY after the race did not show any significant findings.

FINEZZA and AOMEN were sent for sampling.
