Recap by phillip woo

Mega Champion was well-rated in midfield and two deep, straightened four deep and quickened nicely to take control 100m out for the win with a step up in trip after excuses last run with mucous. Clement Spirit made his run second from the rear and finished off willingly down the far outside to nail favourite Dr Super by a nostril. Short-priced favourite Dr Super was restrained to settle third and one-off the fence behind leader Solar Boy, claimed the front at the 300m and came up one-paced over the final 100m. Thanksgiving was posted three deep in fifth from gate 13, rounded the final bend five wide and kept on well with strong punter support. He'll need to be kept safe from a better alley next time out. Empire City saved ground in midfield, cornered in three deep and kept on OK in a better effort. Hei Hei Posh was cast three deep, rounded the final bend with three wider out and made some ground. Well-punted late, Sunshine Boy found nothing under a hustling ride. Surrounded blundered approaching the top of the straight and gave up the chase.

Racing Incident Report

Race Five: (336) - SHUI WO HANDICAP - Class 4 - 1400 Meters FAST FORWARD, Standby Declared Starter, was withdrawn on 20.1.12 by order of the Stewards acting on veterinary advice (lame left fore).

Before being allowed to race again, FAST FORWARD will be subjected to an official veterinary examination.

SUNSHINE BOY was very slow to begin.

Having in mind SUNSHINE BOYs recent record in respect of being slow to begin, the Stewards ruled that SUNSHINE BOY will be required to perform satisfactorily in an official barrier trial before being allowed to race again.

AMAZING SUPERNOVA was slow to begin.

From wide barriers, PILLOWIN and GRACYTOM were taken across behind runners shortly after the start.

Near the 700 Metres, AMAZING SUPERNOVA was awkwardly placed close to the heels of MEGA CHAMPION.

CLEMENT SPIRIT, which was following, was inconvenienced in consequence.

Near the 500 Metres, GRACYTOM lost ground when steadied away from the heels of HEI HEI POSH.

SURROUNDED, which was racing tight outside CLEMENT SPIRIT which itself was awkwardly placed close to the heels of AMAZING SUPERNOVA, struck the heels of GRACYTOM and blundered badly.

Near the 300 Metres, EASY TRACK got its head on the side and shifted in towards the heels of SOLAR BOY.

In the Straight, HEI HEI POSH got its head on the side and hung out.

Apprentice T H So (SOLAR BOY) was reminded of his obligation to ride his mounts out to the end of the race at least hands and heels where circumstances permit.

For the major part of the race, THANKSGIVING travelled wide and without cover.

When questioned, D Whyte stated that he had been instructed, if possible, to lead on DR SUPER.

He said that after beginning only fairly he rode his mount along in the early stages to improve his position.

He said approaching the 1200 Metres he had intended to clear EASY TRACK to his inside, however, that horse was being vigorously ridden along to maintain its position.

He said he was also mindful that SOLAR BOY was being ridden along, from a wide barrier, to obtain the lead.

He said as he felt that he would have had to make some use of DR SUPER to clear EASY TRACK to his inside given that horse was being ridden to maintain its position, he elected to steady DR SUPER and allowed SOLAR BOY to cross near the 800 Metres.

He added after this he improved his position to be racing towards the hindquarters of SOLAR BOY and outside EASY TRACK.

He said he was mindful of not being engaged in a speed battle with EASY TRACK and SOLAR BOY in the early and middle stages.

A veterinary inspection of SUNSHINE BOY and SURROUNDED after the race did not show any significant findings.

DR SUPER, MEGA CHAMPION and CLEMENT SPIRIT were sent for sampling.
