Charity Spirit travelled sweetly in fourth along the rails, cornered in two deep and eventually got going to wear down Good Boy Boy 20m out for the win from a fast-finishing Flashing Guy, who made his run in midfield and one off the rails, shifted into the clear five wide at the 300m and was finishing up strongly late to make it close at the wire. Good Boy Boy led one off from Hawthorne, cleared to a commanding lead at the 500m, straightened nearly three lengths on top and was running out of gas 50m out. Plunged late, Smart Kids was settled behind midfield and two deep, rounded the final bend four deep and was ran on willingly to take fourth. He just finds the 1,000m a bit short. Hawthorne couldn't match the speed of Good Boy Boy and had to settle second on the rails, straightened three deep and was swamped 50m out for a placing. Keen Marie recovered after a tardy break to settled third from the rear and along the inside, shifted two deep at the 200m and made a steady bid late without threatening. Vintage Hussler kept on one-paced while copping a bump from Hawthorne at the 100m. He's on his mark. Danewin Winning was posted deep three deep worse than midfield from a wide gate, cornered in with two wider out and never was a factor.
