Recap by phillip woo

How Wonderful was taken back from a wide gate, was ridden to stay in touch at the 500m, swung the final bend widest out and let down brilliantly to get up in a blanket finish of three for the win. Compact Yarn was given an uncontested lead early on, was tackled by Best Noodle at the 650m, straightened two lengths on top, was still comfortably on top at the 200m and was running on empty inside the final 50m to just miss by a bob of the heads. Favourite Mount Victory stretched out nicely over the final 100m to make it very tight on the line. Plunged late, Industrial Legend stayed on reasonably well with a return to Class Four to come up a distant fourth. O'Reilly Magic stayed to the inside upon straightening and kept on all right without threatening. Suisse D'Or was placed under pressure approaching the final bend, worked to second four deep at the 200m and was wobbling inside the 200m in a disappointing run with some late-market support. Perfect Ten only held his ground over the last 150m. Full Spirit settled midfield and on the rails after copping a bump leaving the gate, straightened one off the fence and was allowed to ease out of things at the 200m after being baulked for a run from a tiring Master Dreamer at the 250m. Best Noodle was trapped three deep in midfield, rushed forward to sit second at the 800m, was under pressure three deep approaching the final bend and was gassed 300m out.

Racing Incident Report

Race Four: (384) - TIN LOK HANDICAP - Class 4 - 1800 Meters AMAZING JOURNEY was withdrawn on 7.2.11 by order of the Stewards acting on veterinary advice (stiff action behind).

Before being allowed to race again, AMAZING JOURNEY will be subjected to an official veterinary examination.

FULL SPIRIT was slow to begin.

Approaching the 1100 Metres, SUISSE DOR was awkwardly placed close to the heels of PERFECT TEN (Apprentice C Y Ho).

Apprentice Ho was warned against the practice of excessively reducing the pace.

For some distance after the 200 Metres, FULL SPIRIT was steadied when disappointed for running between MASTER DREAMER and PERFECT TEN.

For the majority of the race, BEST NOODLE travelled wide and without cover and in the Straight gave ground.

When questioned, Trainer L Ho stated that as he did not anticipate that tonights race would be run at a strong tempo and also as BEST NOODLE was dropping markedly in weight as compared to its last start, he instructed Apprentice T H So, the rider of BEST NOODLE, to attempt to obtain a forward position if possible.

He said he had intended for BEST NOODLE to be ridden in 2nd or 3rd position, however, he did advise Apprentice So that if no other horse intended to lead, it was acceptable for him to dictate the tempo of the race.

He said despite being ridden along in the early stages, BEST NOODLE did not have sufficient speed to cross runners to its inside and for this reason it was left racing wide.

A veterinary inspection of FULL SPIRIT after the race did not show any significant findings.

After the race, an endoscopic examination was conducted on MOUNT VICTORY at the request of Trainer P Osullivan.

The Veterinary Surgeon said this examination showed a substantial amount of blood in the horses trachea.

Before being allowed to race again, MOUNT VICTORY will be subjected to an official veterinary examination.
