Recap by phillip woo

My Home Town slotted outside the leader Shiny Day in second from gate nine, swept to the lead three deep at the 200m and kept on gamely from the fast-finishing Sunrise for a second course-and-distance win. Sunrise was settled behind midfield and on the rails, hit the straight with two wider out and was hitting the line with purpose to collar Shiny Day in the final few metres for second. Firming late, Shiny Day enjoyed a soft time on the lead, straightened a half-length on top and went down fighting in his course debut. Great Achievement travelled ahead of midfield and three deep with some cover, rallied six wide upon straightening and kept on well to fill the frame in fourth. Horse Aplenty travelled outside of Sunrise in the run, swung the final bend widest out and was getting going late without threatening. Punted late, Supreme Genki settled fifth and one off the fence, cornered in five wide and kept on passed beaten runners under a steady left whip. Champagne Days kept on evenly over the last 100m. Favourite Great Renown wasn't making any headway at all over the final 200m in a surprisingly flat performance. Perfect Gear enjoyed the box-seat run, stayed near the inside upon straightening and came up empty inside the final 150m with every chance. Give Well made his run second from the rear after breaking sharply left at the jump, straightened three deep and never did let down.

Racing Incident Report

Race Seven: (387) - QUEEN'S ROAD EAST HANDICAP - Class 3 - 1650 Meters GIVE WELL began very awkwardly and lost ground at the start.

CAPITAL K was slow to begin.

From the outside barrier, DR WIN got its head up on a number of occasions when being taken across behind runners.

At the entrance to the Straight, GIVE WELL shifted out and made contact with the hindquarters of CAPITAL K which became unbalanced.

Approaching the 100 Metres, GIVE WELL shifted out across the heels of CAPITAL K.

At the 100 Metres, CAPITAL K was steadied when disappointed for running between CHAMPAGNE DAYS and SUPREME GENKI.

After this, CAPITAL K was not able to be properly tested in the run to the finishing line.

Throughout the race, CHAMPAGNE DAYS travelled wide and without cover.

When questioned regarding the disappointing performance of GREAT RENOWN, D Whyte said that the horse travelled well until prior to the Home Turn at which time it came under pressure to improve its position.

He said despite being ridden along in the Straight GREAT RENOWN did not respond to his riding and, in his opinion, raced like a tired horse.

A veterinary inspection of GREAT RENOWN after the race did not show any significant findings.

GREAT RENOWN, MY HOME TOWN and SUNRISE were sent for sampling.
