Recap by phillip woo

Military Attack settled worse than midfield and on the rails, stayed to the inside upon straightening and quickened nicely to take control 200m out for a convincing debut win. Turf Express settled fifth along the rails, cornered in three deep and stayed on well to be a clear second. Fun Rider punched forward from a wide gate to lead rounding the first bend, handed up the lead to Fortune Red Pepper at the 1,100m, hit the lead briefly four deep at the 250m and stayed on gamely to just hold Dragon Fighter for third. Dragon Fighter crossed over from a wide gate to settle third and two-to-three deep without cover, hit the straight five wide and went down fighting in a tussle for third. Flying Supreme travelled outside Military Attack in the run, rounded the final bend five wide and made some ground late without threatening. Happy Tumbler made his run at the rear, swung the final bend widest out and was running on late without menacing. Regency Winner made his run third from the rear and along the inside, straightened two deep and only kept on passed beaten runners. Mr Bond travelled without cover outside of Voile Rouge, swung the final bend with one wider out and didn't find much under a right whip. Fortune Red Pepper rushed forward to lead out right passing the 1,100m, was nearly three lengths on top at the 800m, was down to just over a length at the top of the straight and was struggling 200m out.

Racing Incident Report

Race Eight: (406) - ARSENAL HANDICAP - Class 2 - 1650 Meters MILITARY ATTACK was slow to begin.

Approaching the winning post on the first occasion, PACKING WHIZ got its head up and proved difficult to settle when momentarily tightened between FLYING SUPREME and MILITARY ATTACK.

Approaching the 1200 Metres, FORTUNE RED PEPPER was left racing wide and without cover and shortly after this was allowed to improve its position into the lead.

Near the 1100 Metres, PACKING WHIZ proved very difficult to settle and got its head up for some distance.

Making the turn near the 1000 Metres, VOILE ROUGE shifted out away from the heels of DRAGON FIGHTER, resulting in MR BOND being taken wider.

After this, MR BOND travelled wide and without cover.

For a short distance after the 1000 Metres, HAPPY TUMBLER was steadied away from the heels of REGENCY WINNER.

In the middle stages, FORTUNE RED PEPPER proved difficult to settle.

When questioned regarding the disappointing performance of VOILE ROUGE, D Whyte stated that after travelling comfortably in the early stages VOILE ROUGE commenced to prove difficult to settle after the 1000 Metres.

He said after this VOILE ROUGE travelled more kindly, however, after being placed under pressure rounding the Home Turn got its head up and did not stretch out which is unusual for the horse.

He added it had been decided to remove the blinkers from VOILE ROUGE tonight in an endeavour to help it see out the distance of tonights race and this may have attributed to the fact that VOILE ROUGE got its head up under pressure.

A veterinary inspection of MR BOND, VOILE ROUGE and REGENCY WINNER after the race did not show any significant findings.

MR BOND, MILITARY ATTACK and TURF EXPRESS were sent for sampling.
