Recap by phillip woo

Shiny Day enjoyed an uncontested lead through moderate fractions, straightened a length on top, shook off a challenge from Medallist at the 200m and edged clear for the win. He looks one that will relish 1,800m as well. Real Specialist settled behind back to fourth from the rear and four deep without cover at the 800m, swung the final bend widest out and was running on nicely to edge out the late-fancied Medallist for second. Medallist enjoyed the box-seat run, stayed to the inside upon straightening and was headed in the shadows of the post for second. Lombardi settled three back and on the rails, straightened four deep and kept on well to fill the frame as a long-priced fourth. Athenium travelled behind midfield and two deep, cornered in five wide, shifted to the outside of Racing Hero at the 250m and ran on well to make it close for fourth. Winning Apex made his run at or second from the rear, switched widest out at the 400m and got going late when the race was all over. Takeanotherchance settled third from the rear and one off the fence, rounded the final bend with two deeper out and made some ground without threatening. Racing Hero was posted three deep in fifth without cover, rounded the final bend five wide and run peaked 100m out. Flash Knight was posted three deep behind midfield, hit the straight with two wider out and was making early progress in the straight before coming up flat over the final 200m. He wasn't ready to step it up to the mile on his current preparation and may be better at 1,400m.

Racing Incident Report

Race Ten: (416) - DYER HANDICAP - Class 3 - 1600 Meters FLASH KNIGHT and JIMSON THE BEST were crowded for room at the start between RACING HERO and TAKEANOTHERCHANCE which shifted out.

From wide barriers, BLESSING and WINNING APEX were taken across behind runners shortly after the start.

For the majority of the race, REAL SPECIALIST and RACING HERO travelled wide and without cover.

Over the final 150 Metres, BLESSING was unable to obtain clear running and because of this was not properly tested.

When questioned, D Whyte stated that after the 200 Metres when being ridden out with the whip in his left hand, REAL SPECIALIST shifted in under pressure towards FLASH KNIGHT.

He said for this reason he changed his whip into his right hand passing the 150 Metres.

He said however that prior to using the whip in this hand, REAL SPECIALIST shifted out abruptly near the 100 Metres, resulting in him becoming unbalanced in the saddle.

He said because of this he was obliged to stop riding and straighten REAL SPECIALIST.

He added after this REAL SPECIALIST continued to shift out over the concluding stages.

When questioned regarding the disappointing performance of FLASH KNIGHT, D Oliver stated that his mount travelled well until rounding the Home Turn at which time he felt that the horse was going to finish off the race well.

He said however that FLASH KNIGHT immediately came under pressure and did not show any turn of foot.

He said after this FLASH KNIGHT was disappointing in the manner in which it failed to finish off the race.

He did say that he recommended to connections to consider adding blinkers to the horses gear in future.

A veterinary inspection of FLASH KNIGHT after the race did not show any significant findings.

SHINY DAY and REAL SPECIALIST were sent for sampling.
