Recap by phillip woo

Post-time favourite Sterling City lived up to his pedigree and some sterling trials for a nice debut win and remains the one to follow. He jumped well from gate two, worked his way to sit three off the stands side and inside the leaders, assumed the front 300m out and drew clear for a convincing win. Early favourite, Expedience tracked the speed on the outside fence, moved to second at the 200m and kept on gamely for a pleasing debut performance of his own. Another of five first-timers in the field, Dapper Boy was handily ridden in the centre of the field and stayed on well for third. He'll certainly be better when stepping up over a further trip. Call Me Achiever was up sharing the lead with O'Halo two off the outside fence and was giving way when headed for a distant fourth. O'Halo travelled just underneath Call Me Achiever and was giving way over the last 150m. Diamond Knight travelled fourth from the rear and made a mild bid late without threatening. Newcomer One Of A Kind was rated behind midfield and two off the outside fence underneath the riderless Phantom Philip, switched inside for a clear run at the 250m and stayed on OK. The saddle slipped on Phantom Philip soon after leaving the gate and Jacky Tong Chi-kin was tossed to the ground.

Racing Incident Report

Race Two: (462) - FRIENDSHIP BRIDGE HANDICAP - Class 4 - 1000 Meters After being loaded, PHANTOM PHILIP became fractious, reared and momentarily sat down, resulting in its rider, C K Tong, being dislodged.

PHANTOM PHILIP was examined by the Veterinary Officer who said in his opinion it was suitable to race.

C K Tong was passed fit to fulfil the riding engagement.

Before being allowed to race again, PHANTOM PHILIP will be required to perform satisfactorily in an official barrier trial.

DIAMOND KNIGHT blundered at the start.

GALLANT MAMBO was slow to begin and shortly after the start was checked away from the heels of STERLING CITY which shifted out after being bumped by GOOD SMILE.

MERACUS and SILENT DEMAND bumped shortly after the start.

After the 600 Metres, GOOD SMILE was steadied away from the heels of DIAMOND KNIGHT which was taken in by DAPPER BOY.

Over the final 400 Metres, DAPPER BOY got its head on the side and lay in.

The performance of GOOD SMILE, which finished tailed out, was considered unacceptable.

Before being allowed to race again, GOOD SMILE will be required to perform to the satisfaction of the Stewards in an official barrier trial and be subjected to an official veterinary examination.

C K Tong said that shortly after the start his left foot slipped out of the stirrup iron, resulting in him becoming badly unbalanced and being dislodged.

STERLING CITY and EXPEDIENCE were sent for sampling.
