Recap by phillip woo

Firming favourite Bear Hero was up with the leaders in third or fourth and one off the grandstand side, worked to a narrow lead from Gift Is Gift at the 250m while badly shifting ground at the 300m and kept up a good gallop to remain unbeaten in four course-and-distance runs. Keen Tactics settled better worse than midfield and behind Bear Hero and finished off with full of running to overhaul Gift Is Gift at the 20m for second with a move to blinkers. Gift Is Gift pressed forward from an inside gate to eventually dictate the running at the 500m, was narrowly headed at the 200m and went down fighting with a switch to blinkers as well. Amedeo was best into stride, narrowly headed for the lead, checked by Bear Hero at the 300m and kept on willingly to edge Ultimate Winners in a distant fourth. Ultimate Winners travelled in midfield and on the far side from gate one, was placed under pressure and made only a mild bid in a surprisingly flat performance as the second choice in betting. Xi Ying Men was up on the speed underneath Amedeo and came up one-paced over the last 100m. Happy Homing made some good ground, while Flying Together recovered off a sluggish break and found little over the final 150m. Bould Mover travelled prominently two off the far side and was struggling 200m out in another disappointing performance.

Racing Incident Report

Race Three: (463) - TAIPA HANDICAP - Class 3 - 1000 Meters On arrival at the Start, it was noted that XI YING MEN had lost its right front plate.

This plate was refitted.

XI YING MEN was examined by the Veterinary Officer who said in his opinion it was suitable to race.

Also on arrival at the Start, AMEDEO, which had been reported to have struck a rail when proceeding to the barriers, was examined by the Veterinary Officer who said it sustained a superficial abrasion to the left front cannon.

After being trotted up, AMEDEO was found to be suitable to race.

AMEDEO and XI YING MEN began awkwardly.

ULTIMATE WINNERS shifted out at the start, resulting in BOULD MOVER being taken out onto GIFT IS GIFT.

After the 400 Metres, BEAR HERO (N Callan) got its head on the side and hung in under pressure, resulting in AMEDEO being crowded for room near the 300 Metres inside XI YING MEN which became unbalanced after being bumped by AMEDEO.

N Callan was severely reprimanded and told that in similar circumstances he must make more of an endeavour than he did on this occasion to prevent his mounts from shifting ground.

After this, BEAR HERO continued to shift ground inwards under pressure.

A veterinary inspection of BOULD MOVER after the race revealed that the horse had sustained a mild abrasion to the inside of the left hind cannon.

A veterinary inspection of ULTIMATE WINNERS after the race did not show any significant findings.

BEAR HERO and KEEN TACTICS were sent for sampling.
