Recap by phillip woo

Early favourite Helene Spirit was among four gallopers vying for the early lead, before settling box-seat rounding the first bend, straightened one off the fence and took control 100m out for the win with a switch to Happy Valley. Late-fancied favourite, Liberator pressed forward widest out to eventually settle second and one off the fence, worked to the lead three deep at the 300m and kept on well to hold the late surging Osvaldo for second. Osvaldo settled second from the rear and on the rails after breaking in the air at the jump, swung the final bend with two wider out and was finishing up with purpose late. Emperor Claudius settled midfield and two deep, rounded the final bend six wide, worked to third at the 200m and stayed on one-paced thereafter. Happy Guys emerged with the lead rounding the final bend, dropped anchor to cruise along at his own pace halfway, straightened a length on top and was struggling in the final 100m off a big weight. Regency Winner travelled fifth along the fence, straightened three deep and only held his ground in the run to the line. He's got limited upside off his current mark and acts better on a wet track. Hot Shot settled fourth and one off the fence, cornered in four deep and failed to find anything under a hustling ride. Hear The Roar made his run at the rear, was still trailing the field at the top of the straight and with one wider out and was never a threat.

Racing Incident Report

Race Seven: (513) - DIAMOND HILL HANDICAP - Class 2 - 1800 Meters BERIO was withdrawn on 27.3.12 by order of the Stewards acting on veterinary advice (sore left fore pastern/fetlock).

Before being allowed to race again, BERIO will be subjected to an official veterinary examination.

On arrival at the Start, Z Purton reported that HAPPY GUYS had made contact with a rail on leaving the Parade Ring.

HAPPY GUYS was examined by the Veterinary Officer who said in his opinion it was suitable to race.

OSVALDO was slow to begin.

Near the 1000 Metres, JAMESINA was awkwardly placed close to the heels of EMPEROR CLAUDIUS which was racing close to the heels of HOT SHOT.

After the 500 Metres, JAMESINA was shifted out away from the heels of EMPEROR CLAUDIUS which was shifted to the outside of HOT SHOT.

HELENE SPIRIT and LIBERATOR were sent for sampling.
