Recap by phillip woo

Lucky Army was snagged back to last from gate 12, still had a task at hand while straightening six wide and finished up willingly to win going away over the final 20m for a second trip success from his past three starts. He appears capable of heading higher. Kingston Elite jumped much better to sit outside the leader in second, swung the final bend three wide, narrowly hit the front 100m out and found one better on the day. M's Magic was aggressively ridden to lead before dropping anchor rounding the first bend, straightened one off the fence a half-a-length on top and went down fighting. Metrevelli settled fourth and one off the rails, rallied four wide upon straightening and was grinding away. Favourite Mister Horse travelled on the rails in midfield, cornered in five wide and stayed on OK with every chance. Noble Twins bided his time at the rear and made some late ground down the outside. Specked late, Telecom New Star settled fourth and along the fence, rallied four wide upon straightening and only held his ground.

Racing Incident Report

Race Two: (537) - ZHAOYANGMEN HANDICAP - Class 5 - 1650 Meters REAL DRAGON was withdrawn on 13.4.12 by order of the Stewards acting on veterinary advice (lame right hind) and was replaced by Standby Declared Starter METREVELLI.

Before being allowed to race again, REAL DRAGON will be subjected to an official veterinary examination.

SPEEDY WARRIOR was slow to begin.

From the outside barrier, LUCKY ARMY was taken across behind runners shortly after the start.

Despite being ridden along in the early stages, TELECOM NEW STAR failed to muster speed.

Approaching the 1300 Metres, TELECOM NEW STAR was awkwardly placed close to the heels of MISTER HORSE.

Near the 550 Metres, NOBLE TWINS momentarily raced tight between TELECOM NEW STAR and GOOD LOOKING WATCH, both of which shifted ground slightly.

Near the 450 Metres, CLASSA and GOOD LOOKING WATCH bumped.

Throughout the race, GRAND GENERAL travelled wide and without cover.

When questioned regarding the disappointing performance of CLASSA, H W Lai stated that he had been riding the horse in some of its track work leading up to todays race and, in his opinion, that work was good.

He said after obtaining a good position in the early and middle stages, he shifted CLASSA out at the 800 Metres in an attempt to improve its position to be racing behind GRAND GENERAL which itself was improving its position at this time.

He said near the 500 Metres GRAND GENERAL commenced to give ground and CLASSA was awkwardly placed close to the heels of that horse before being able to be shifted to the outside of the heels of GRAND GENERAL approaching the 400 Metres.

He said at this time CLASSA lost momentum and after this did not respond to his riding.

Trainer L Ho stated that, in his opinion, todays performance could be attributed to the fact that GRAND GENERAL was not able to take CLASSA into the race.

He said CLASSA appreciates being able to build up momentum in its races and when CLASSA was awkwardly placed close to the heels of GRAND GENERAL after the 500 Metres, the horse was then not able to finish off the race.

A veterinary inspection of CLASSA after the race did not show any significant findings.

After the race, the Veterinary Officer reported that GRAND GENERAL had sustained a superficial wound to the right hind.

MISTER HORSE, LUCKY ARMY and KINGSTON ELITE were sent for sampling.
