Recap by phillip woo

O'Reilly Magic settled around midfield and on the rails, rounded the final bend four-to-five deep and responded when asked for an effort to get 50m out for the upset win. Jade Pins settled behind midfield and on the rails, was back to last approaching the final bend, quickened well to narrowly hit the front at the 100m along the inside and found one better in the deep stretch. King Galileo was settled second from the rear and two deep early on from a wide gate, took off three deep at the 1,000m to get within two lengths off the leader Mr Speedy approaching the straight, cornered in six wide and stayed on well for a placing. Well-punted late, Felarof travelled outside the leader in second, shifted four deep upon straightening and kept on reasonably well to fill the frame in fourth. Carrying roll-up support, Master Dreamer settled midfield and two deep, rounded the final bend with two wider out and made some ground late without menacing. Favourite Mr Speedy dictated the running at his own leisure, shifted three deep while cornering in a length on top and failed to repel rivals over the final 100m. Healthy Contender enjoyed the box-seat run, straightened one off the fence and whacked on one-paced with every opportunity. Fantastisch settled one-out, one-back in the run, straightened five wide and was only plodding over the final 150m.

Racing Incident Report

Race Two: (547) - VIOLET HANDICAP - Class 5 - 1800 Meters JADE PINS was slow to begin.

Passing the 1700 Metres, CHANTILLY was steadied after racing in restricted room between JADE PINS and ABLE DRAGON which shifted in when awkwardly placed close to the heels of OREILLY MAGIC.

Approaching the winning post on the first occasion, FANTASTISCH got its head up on a number of occasions when being steadied to allow FELAROF to cross.

Approaching the 800 Metres, KING GALILEO was shifted out and was ridden along to obtain a more forward position.

MASTER DREAMER got its head on the side and hung in in the Straight.

FELAROF lay in under pressure in the Straight and over the concluding stages shifted in towards the heels of OREILLY MAGIC.

When questioned regarding the improved performance of OREILLY MAGIC, Trainer C W Chang stated that he had given the horse a strong chance in the most recent start when the horse raced disappointingly.

He said after that race he altered the work programme of OREILLY MAGIC in an attempt to keep the horse fresh for tonights race.

He said that he selected tonights race as it was over the distance of 1800 Metres and OREILLY MAGIC had performed well in Class 4 three starts ago over this distance.

He added that OREILLY MAGIC has ongoing soundness issues and he felt that it may have benefited from not being worked as much in the lead up to tonights race.

He said irrespective of this, given OREILLY MAGICs disappointing last start, he did not expect the horse to be a winning chance in tonights race.

After the race, M Du Plessis reported that MR SPEEDY was inclined to hang out throughout the race.

A veterinary inspection of CHANTILLY after the race did not show any significant findings.

MR SPEEDY, OREILLY MAGIC and JADE PINS were sent for sampling.
