Recap by phillip woo

Brilliant Chariot was well-rated in midfield and one off the fence, cornered in five wide and eventually wore down favourite Ray's Favourite in the final bob for a second course-and-distance win from his past four starts. Ray's Favourite was posted deep early on, before slotting one-out, one-back at the 1,400m, peeled out and made his move at the 500m, straightened four deep, tended to lay in while narrowly poking his head in front of Fortune Bravo at the 150m and was caught in the final stride. Fortune Bravo sat outside the leader Perfect Joy, worked to a narrow lead at the 200m and peaked on his run just inside the last 100m. White Hart King settled third from the rear and two deep, hit the final bend with two wider out and was getting going late to fill the frame in fourth. Hong Kong Fat travelled behind midfield and on the rails, straightened four deep and stayed on well to make it close for fourth. Specked late, Home With Glory peeled widest out soon after straightening and made his usual bid late without threatening. Perfect Joy went an even clip on the speed, straightened a length on top and was stopping 150m out. Private Road rounded the final bend five wide and kept on passed beaten runners. Touch Well was a handful for Brett Prebble while travelling fifth along the rails, straightened three deep and was struggling 200m out, with a step up in trip and switch to Happy Valley.

Racing Incident Report

Race Two: (565) - LANCASHIRE HANDICAP - Class 4 - 1650 Meters HOME WITH GLORY was slow to begin.

HONG KONG FAT and PERFECT FIT bumped at the start.

A short distance later, HONG KONG FAT was steadied when crowded for room between PERFECT FIT and BRILLIANT CHARIOT which shifted in.

WHITE HART KING was taken across behind runners shortly after the start.

When being steadied to allow PERFECT JOY to cross approaching the winning post on the first occasion, TOUCH WELL got its head up and proved very difficult to settle.

For a considerable distance after this, TOUCH WELL proved very difficult to settle and got its head up on a number of occasions.

After the 1100 Metres, HOME WITH GLORY proved difficult to settle and got its head up when awkwardly placed close to the heels of HONG KONG FAT which itself was awkwardly placed close to the heels of TOUCH WELL.

In the early part of the Straight, RAYS FAVOURITE got its head on the side, hung in and proved difficult to ride.

C W Wong (PERFECT JOY) was reminded of his obligation to ride his mounts out at least hands and heels to the end of the race wherever possible.

When questioned, Trainer T W Leung (HOME WITH GLORY) stated that he had instructed K C Leung to refrain from using the whip in tonights race until near the 100 Metres.

He said he advised Jockey Leung that if HOME WITH GLORY was not responding to being ridden hands and heels, he was allowed to use the whip, however, he should do so sparingly as he is of the opinion that the horse does not necessarily benefit by being ridden with the whip.

Mr Leung was advised of the necessity for horses to be ridden in a consistent manner and the Stewards would monitor the way in which HOME WITH GLORY is ridden in its future starts.

B Prebble (TOUCH WELL) reported that after over-racing for a significant portion of tonights race, the horse appeared to him to choke down as it made an abnormal breathing noise in the Straight.

A veterinary inspection of TOUCH WELL after the race did not show any significant findings.

Before being allowed to race again, TOUCH WELL will be subjected to an official veterinary examination.

After the race, M Du Plessis (HONG KONG FAT) reported that the horse did not feel comfortable in its action in tonights race.

A veterinary inspection of HONG KONG FAT after the race did not show any significant findings.

BRILLIANT CHARIOT and RAYS FAVOURITE were sent for sampling.
