Recap by phillip woo

Late-fancied favourite Kick Serve settled behind midfield and on the rails from an inside alley, straightened one off the fence and picked up nicely to get up 100m out for the win. He had been going close from a wide gate and deserved the victory. Sea The Pearls travelled fifth along the fence, peeled into the clear with one wider out upon straightening, drew level at the 150m and found one too good in the end. Specked late, Mochi travelled second from the rear and along the inside from gate 11, stayed to the paint upon straightening and finished nicely to take third off a light weight with a step up in grade. Perfect Gear bided his time fourth from the rear and two deep, cornered in one off the fence, switched out sharply five wide at the 250m and was hitting the line well to fill the frame in fourth. Benefactor was up challenging for the lead, before clearing Lucky Turbo for the front at the 800m, cornered a length on top after setting brisk early fractions and weakened in the final 100m. Lucky Turbo handed up to enjoy the box-seat after leading early on, straightened four deep and kept on evenly over the final 200m with money pouring in late. Danewin Winning made his run two deep in midfield, turned the final bend three wide and was struggling to stay competitive over the final 200m. He needs to be turned out. Early favourite Dr Super was eased down passing the 200m.

Racing Incident Report

Race Seven: (588) - THE SAUTERNES CUP (HANDICAP) - Class 3 - 1200 Meters From wide barriers, MOCHI and FRESH AIR were taken across behind runners shortly after the start.

Shortly after the start, KICK SERVE was steadied away from the heels of LUCKY TURBO which shifted in after being bumped by BENEFACTOR.

Despite being ridden along in the early stages, SHAHJEE failed to muster speed and raced back in the field.

After the 1000 Metres, LUCKY TURBO proved difficult to settle when being steadied.

After the 700 Metres, ALL FRIENDS was left racing wide and without cover.

Approaching the 400 Metres, VINTAGE HUSSLER got its head on the side and lay out.

Passing the 300 Metres, PERFECT GEAR was steadied when being shifted to the outside of DANEWIN WINNING to obtain clear running.

Passing the 200 Metres, DANEWIN WINNING was shifted out away from the heels of DR SUPER which shifted ground.

When questioned regarding the disappointing performance of DR SUPER, J Lloyd stated that he had to make use of his mount to obtain a forward position as instructed.

He said making the first turn he was left racing three wide outside BENEFACTOR and LUCKY TURBO and was only able to shift in to a position one horse off the fence after the 800 Metres when BENEFACTOR was able to clear LUCKY TURBO.

He said after making the turn passing the 600 Metres, DR SUPER became unbalanced in its action and after the 400 Metres came under pressure.

He said in the Straight DR SUPER shifted ground and again became unbalanced in its action after the 200 Metres and weakened out of the race.

He did say that on pulling up DR SUPER made a breathing noise, however, this is not unusual as the horse had made a similar noise previously after being successful in its races.

He added that having in mind the manner in which DR SUPER travelled tonight, he is of the opinion that the horse may be better when racing on the rail, however, this was not available to him due to the circumstances of the race.

A veterinary inspection of DR SUPER after the race did not show any significant findings.

The performance of DR SUPER, a last start winner, was considered unacceptable.

Before being allowed to race again, DR SUPER will be required to perform to the satisfaction of the Stewards in an official barrier trial and be subjected to an official veterinary examination.

When questioned regarding the disappointing performance of FRESH AIR, W C Marwing stated that he had ridden the horse in some of its track work in the lead up to tonights race and, in his opinion, that work was good.

He said FRESH AIR did not travel well and he was obliged to niggle at the horse throughout the race in an endeavour to have it travel more genuinely.

He said after being placed under pressure, FRESH AIR did not respond to his riding and was disappointing.

He did say that after the race FRESH AIR coughed when being pulled up.

A veterinary inspection of FRESH AIR after the race did not show any significant findings.

The performance of FRESH AIR, a last start winner, was considered unacceptable.

KICK SERVE and SEA THE PEARLS were sent for sampling.
