Recap by phillip woo

Mr Award worked early to eventually lead one off the fence at the 1,000m, was well rated over the final 800m, cornered in nearly two lengths on top and just held off the late surge of Perfect Fit to chalk a remarkable fourth win and five placings from his past nine starts. Perfect Fit was caught three deep in midfield, rushed to fourth at the 600m, rounded the final bend five wide and was eating up the ground late to nearly breakthrough at a rough price. Late-fancied favourite Twin Turbo was hustled to lead early on before assuming the box-seat position at the 800m, cornered in one off the fence and kept plugging away late to just hold third by a nostril with every chance. Supported late, Surfer Boy settled fourth or fifth and one off the fence after jumping among the quickest, cornered in four deep and came up just short of wearing down Twin Turbo for a placing. Intellectualstride was posted three deep and fourth from the rear, moved to midfield approaching the final bend, cornered in with two wider out and made some ground late without menacing. Specked at a price, Serendipity made his run second from the rear and three deep from a wide gate, came into the race four wide at the 450m, swung the final bend with one wider out and was doing his best work late. It was a nice effort in defeat and will be worth keeping safe from a good draw next time out. Early favourite Pure Force straightened two deep and failed to respond under a left whip.

Racing Incident Report

Race Three: (603) - FRANCE GALOP OWNERS DEPARTMENT HANDICAP - Class 4 - 1200 Meters LONGWAH KID was taken across behind runners shortly after the start.

Shortly after the start, HAPPY KAISER and PAR EXCELLENCE were crowded for room between PURE FORCE and PERFECT FIT which, after initially shifting in of its own accord, was then taken in slightly by TWIN TURBO.

From a wide barrier, SERENDIPITY was taken across behind runners shortly after the start.

For some distance approaching and passing the 1000 Metres, HAPPY KAISER was awkwardly placed close to the heels of PURE FORCE.

After the 800 Metres, PERFECT FIT was left racing wide and without cover.

After the 600 Metres, PURE FORCE became unbalanced when crowded for room inside SURFER BOY which got its head on the side and shifted in marginally.

In the early part of the Straight, SURFER BOY was momentarily held up when obtaining tight running between PERFECT FIT and IDYLLIC WIND which was commencing to give ground.

For some distance approaching and passing the 200 Metres, SURFER BOY raced in restricted room inside the heels of PERFECT FIT which shifted in marginally.

Passing the 200 Metres, SURFER BOY was accidentally struck across the nose by the whip of O Doleuze (TWIN TURBO).

Over the concluding stages, SURFER BOY raced in restricted room between TWIN TURBO and PERFECT FIT.

When questioned regarding the disappointing performance of PURE FORCE, D Whyte stated that, from barrier 1, it had been decided to ride PURE FORCE slightly more forward than usual as the early races on the programme indicated that horses racing closer to the speed may be advantaged.

He said after being crowded for room near the 600 Metres, PURE FORCE took a short time to become rebalanced, however, after the 500 Metres commenced to travel well.

He said he placed the horse under pressure rounding the Home Turn, however, despite being ridden along, PURE FORCE did not respond to his riding and was disappointing.

He added, in his opinion, PURE FORCE may be better suited by being ridden more conservatively than it was in tonights race.

A veterinary inspection of PURE FORCE after the race did not show any significant findings.

After the race, the Veterinary Officer reported that KING ON EARTH had lost its right front plate.

TWIN TURBO, MR AWARD and PERFECT FIT were sent for sampling.
