Recap by phillip woo

Favourite Tarrega enjoyed the run of the race one-out, one-back behind the steady pace of Jade Christy, cornered in four deep and got up in the final stride to pip New Asia Rising for an overdue win at this sixth outing. Best-backed late, New Asia Rising was ridden along from a wide gate to eventually settle three deep in third at the 600m, worked to the lead three deep at the 100m and went down fighting to miss by lip in his dirt debut. It was a big run and he's due for a win. Dragonfield was always off the course four-or-five wide ahead of midfield from the widest gate, swung the final bend with three deeper out and kept on nicely to figure in the placings at a price in his initial run on the all-weather surface. Jade Christy was pestered early for the lead by Time Runner, opened a length advantage midway, was two lengths clear at the 300m and lost a placing in the final 50m in his AWT debut. Darpana settled behind midfield and on the rails, cornered four deep and was getting going late when the race was all but over. Gracytom made his run in midfield and one off the fence, rounded the final bend five wide and only held his ground in the dash to the line. He's likely to need a longer trip. White Hart King travelled third from the rear and two deep, was under the pump five wide and kept on passed beaten runners.

Racing Incident Report

Race Two: (620) - SATURN HANDICAP (Sec 2) - Class 4 - 1200 Meters Whilst in the saddling stalls, MING HOI GLORY had its right front plate refitted.

MING HOI GLORY was examined by the Veterinary Officer who said in his opinion it was suitable to race.

DOUBLE MOON was slow to begin.

DARPANA began awkwardly and shifted out abruptly, resulting in GRACYTOM being taken out onto TARREGA.

A short distance after this, DARPANA was steadied when crowded for room between GRACYTOM and TIME RUNNER which got its head on the side and shifted out.

D Whyte (NEW ASIA RISING) was found guilty of a charge of careless riding [Rule 100(1)] in that after the 900 Metres he permitted his mount to shift in when not clear of DRAGONFIELD, causing that horse to be hampered and lose the running to which it was rightfully entitled.

D Whyte was suspended from riding in races for a period to expire on Thursday, 14 June 2012 on which day he may resume race riding (2 Hong Kong racedays).

The commencement of the suspension was deferred until after the Happy Valley racemeeting on Wednesday, 6 June 2012.

In addition, D Whyte was fined $40,000 in lieu of a suspension for a period incorporating one further raceday.

Rounding the Home Turn, DARPANA was awkwardly placed close to the heels of TARREGA.

Throughout the race, NEW ASIA RISING and DRAGONFIELD travelled wide and without cover.

A veterinary inspection of INVINCIBLE HEART after the race did not show any significant findings.

TARREGA and NEW ASIA RISING were sent for sampling.
