Recap by phillip woo

All runners were travelling no better than two off the rails. President Lincoln settled deep without cover in third, rounded the final bend in the centre of the course, swept to the lead 300m out while drifting near the stands side and kept on nicely for an impressive debut success on a suitable wet track. He appears to have some ability and remains one to follow. Wah May Star travelled a handy fifth and two deep, swung the final bend with three wider out, ducked inside for a clear run at the 200m and stayed on nicely for second as the favourite. Keen Wongchoy made his run fourth from the rear with Groovy underneath him, pushed into the clear widest out at the 300m and revelled in the wet going to get up late to collar Time After Time for third. Time After Time saved ground in midfield, straightened with two underneath him, worked to third at the 50m and was collared late for a placing. Just Fantastic was allowed an uncontested time on the lead, hit the straight three lengths on top and was giving way over the final 100m. Groovy made his run second from the rear, straightened closest the far side and made some ground late without menacing. He's more effective at Happy Valley. Open Sesame made his run behind midfield and on the inside, made some progress approaching the final bend, straightened with four underneath him and kept on one-paced over the last 100m. I Smell Money never looked a threat, while Silver Grecian never and fired and Voile Rouge was struggling 200m out.

Racing Incident Report

Race Ten: (636) - BLOG THE WORLD HANDICAP - Class 2 - 1400 Meters SUPER MARSHAL was withdrawn on 17.5.12 by order of the Stewards acting on veterinary advice (sore right front tendon) and was replaced by Standby Declared Starter JUST FANTASTIC.

Before being allowed to race again, SUPER MARSHAL will be subjected to an official veterinary examination.

After being loaded, SILVER GRECIAN became fractious.

Before being allowed to race again, SILVER GRECIAN will be required to perform satisfactorily in a stalls test.

GROOVY was slow to begin and shortly after the start was bumped by VOILE ROUGE which was taken in by CIRCUIT STAR.

WAH MAY STAR blundered at the start.

From a wide barrier, ELEGANCE DESIRE was taken across behind runners shortly after the start.

After the 1200 Metres, KEEN WONGCHOY got its head up on a number of occasions when proving difficult to settle.

Approaching the 1000 Metres, GROOVY proved difficult to settle and was awkwardly placed close to the heels of CIRCUIT STAR.

Shortly after entering the Straight, M Chadwick (OPEN SESAME) dropped his right rein for a short distance.

Approaching the 200 Metres, JUST FANTASTIC shifted out under pressure, resulting in TIME AFTER TIME and OPEN SESAME being inconvenienced.

Near the 50 Metres, JUST FANTASTIC was shifted back in, resulting in GROOVY being hampered.

When questioned regarding the disappointing performance of SILVER GRECIAN, B Prebble stated that carrying top weight today, the horse was not able to quicken when the tempo increased rounding the Home Turn.

He said in the Straight SILVER GRECIAN finished off the race fairly.

A veterinary inspection of SILVER GRECIAN after the race did not show any significant findings.

A veterinary inspection of VOILE ROUGE after the race including an endoscopic examination showed a substantial amount of blood in the horse's trachea and a cut to the outside of the left hind cannon.

Before being allowed to race again, VOILE ROUGE will be subjected to an official veterinary examination.

After the race, an endoscopic examination was conducted on CIRCUIT STAR at the request of Trainer A S Cruz.

The Veterinary Surgeon said this examination showed a substantial amount of mucus in the horse's trachea.

PRESIDENT LINCOLN and WAH MAY STAR were sent for sampling.
