Recap by phillip woo

Hot Pepper settled on the fence in second behind the leader Crimson, rushed to the lead 350m out, opened nearly two lengths on the field at the 200m and kept finding to score as the late-fancied favourite. Fastplus Master made his run behind midfield and on the rails, stayed to the inside upon straightening and ran on well under a big weight and with a drop in grade. He remains one to follow in this grade. Early favourite Bless Us All was rated midfield, rounded the final bend with two wider out and looked to make it interesting at the finish, before peaking 50m out to just hold Diamond Agate for third. Diamond Agate came off the fence at the 600m, cornered in five wide, switched further into the clear with two wider out at the 250m and finished up nicely with a drop in grade. Good Smile settled fourth and two deep, rallied five wide upon straightening and kept on OK with a drop in class. He's a better prospect in this grade at Happy Valley. Specked late, Crimson lost a placing 100m out. Precision Magic made some good ground over unsuitable trip.

Racing Incident Report

Race One: (656) - HKU CENTENNIAL CAMPUS HANDICAP - Class 5 - 1200 Meters DIAMOND AGATE and SABINA were slow to begin.

In the early stages, EASYGOING proved difficult to settle and making the first turn near the 850 Metres got its head on the side and hung in across the heels of DASHING ACE.

F S WINNER, which was positioned to the outside of EASYGOING, was taken wider.

Then throughout the race, F S WINNER travelled wide and mostly without cover.

When questioned, T Angland stated that he had been advised to be positive on PLANET in the early stages from barrier 14, have the horse in about 4th or 5th position if possible and in a similar position when the horse was successful three starts ago.

He said he had to make some use of PLANET in the early stages to cross runners to his inside rather than be left racing wide and this resulted in PLANET racing slightly further forward than had been anticipated.

A veterinary inspection of F S WINNER including an endoscopic examination after the race showed a substantial amount of blood in the horse's trachea.

Before being allowed to race again, F S WINNER will be subjected to an official veterinary examination.

HOT PEPPER and FASTPLUS MASTER were sent for sampling.
