Recap by phillip woo

Short-priced favourite Sterling City sat off the leader in second from gate 10, responded to hit the front at the 250m and kept on nicely for the win. Shahjee settled ahead of midfield and three deep, rounded the final bend with two wider out and kept coming late to take second 100m out. Nightlign made his run second from the rear, straightened six deep and eventually got going in the final 100m to get up in the shadows of the post to pip Po Ching King for third. Po Ching King dictated the running, cornered two deep and a length on top, was headed 250m out while tending to wander out and giving way over the last 100m. Flashing Guy was posted deep near the speed without cover, was aggressively ridden rounding the final bend and kept grinding away over the final 150m. Storm Unicorn loomed a place chance at the 200m, but sustained effort peaked 100m out. You Know I Win was struggling a long way out in a disappointing performance.

Racing Incident Report

Race Seven: (662) - UNIVERSITY HALL HANDICAP - Class 3 - 1200 Meters Shortly after the start, GABRIAL THE KING was bumped by GOOD FELLOW which, after beginning awkwardly, was taken in by JACKTHELAD.

From wide barriers, FANTASTIC TEAM and NIGHTLIGN were taken across behind runners shortly after the start.

When being steadied to allow STERLING CITY to cross at the 900 Metres, JACKTHELAD got its head up and proved difficult to settle.

After being crossed by STERLING CITY passing the 900 Metres, JACKTHELAD was steadied away from the heels of that horse.

Near the 100 Metres, GABRIAL THE KING was steadied on the outside of FLASHING GUY as STORM UNICORN shifted in under pressure.

After this, GABRIAL THE KING was awkwardly placed close to the heels of STORM UNICORN and because of this was not fully tested over the concluding stages.

Throughout the race, FLASHING GUY travelled wide and without cover.

When questioned regarding the disappointing performance of YOU KNOW I WIN, W C Marwing stated that he galloped the horse last Thursday and this work had been pleasing.

He said on the strength of this work, it was anticipated that YOU KNOW I WIN would perform well.

He said that YOU KNOW I WIN travelled satisfactorily until entering the Straight where, soon after, the horse came under pressure and commenced to give ground.

He added that although the horse was coming back in distance, in his opinion, this did not have a large bearing on the horses poor performance today.

A veterinary inspection of YOU KNOW I WIN after the race did not show any significant findings.

STERLING CITY and SHAHJEE were sent for sampling.
