Recap by phillip woo

Dashing Ace mustered speed quickly from gate seven to settle second and one off, claimed the lead from Marvel Plus at the 350m and drew clear to win in convincing fashion with a return to blinkers. Good Job settled along the fence in fifth after breaking tardily, cornered in three deep and ran on well to overhaul Punted late, Fierce Force in the final 20m. Planet was posted without cover three deep and worse than midfield, swung the final bend with two wider out and made some steady ground to bob out Passionate for fourth. Passionate made his run second from the rear and on the rails, cornered in one off and made up considerable ground to earn prize money for the first time with a move to blinkers. Quantum Express whacked away one-paced off a big weight, despite a drop in grade. Shanghai Pioneer turned the final bend with one wider out and never fired. Specked late in betting, Marvel Plus was given an uncontested lead and was struggling 150m out. Favourite Hero's Win made no impression l in a disappointing run, while King Of Fish II faltered 250m out.

Racing Incident Report

Race One: (674) - POK FU LAM RESERVOIR HANDICAP - Class 5 - 1200 Meters METRO RIDER, which began awkwardly, was crowded for room shortly after the start between PASSIONATE and SHANGHAI PIONEER which shifted in.

Despite being ridden along in the early stages, PASSIONATE did not show any early speed and consequently raced back in the field.

Near the 900 Metres, MASTER RACER was steadied away from the heels of QUANTUM EXPRESS which was taken in marginally by FIERCE FORCE.

Approaching the 800 Metres, HEROS WIN was hampered when awkwardly placed close to the heels of QUANTUM EXPRESS which shifted out.

Making the first turn near the 700 Metres, METRO RIDER hung out towards the heels of SHANGHAI PIONEER.

Also making the first turn near the 700 Metres, GOOD JOB got its head on the side and hung out.

Throughout the race, PLANET travelled wide and without cover.

When questioned regarding the improved performance of DASHING ACE, Trainer B K Ng stated that DASHING ACE has been a frustrating horse and for this reason he has tried it over a number of distances and tracks in an attempt to have it race to the best of its ability.

He said DASHING ACE has trialed well on the All Weather surface and in its limited number of starts on this track has raced satisfactorily.

He said after the horse competed at last Sundays Sha Tin racemeeting, he had decided to back the horse up quickly and return it to the All Weather surface in the hope that this would result in a more improved performance.

When questioned regarding the disappointing performance of HEROS WIN, Z Purton stated that he was not able to position the horse as far forward as he had hoped as the race was run at a quick tempo.

He said he rode HEROS WIN along in the early stages in an attempt to obtain a more forward position, however, HEROS WIN, despite being ridden along, was only able to obtain a position behind midfield.

He said unlike at its most recent start, HEROS WIN never travelled well at any stage of todays race and quickly came under pressure.

He added he had ridden HEROS WIN in its track work leading up to todays race as he had done prior to its most recent start and the work leading up to this race had maintained at a good level.

A veterinary inspection of HEROS WIN after the race did not show any significant findings.

The performance of HEROS WIN, a favourite for todays race, was considered unacceptable.

Before being allowed to race again, HEROS WIN will be required to perform to the satisfaction of the Stewards in an official barrier trial and be subjected to an official veterinary examination.

A veterinary inspection of QUANTUM EXPRESS and KING OF FISH II after the race did not show any significant findings.

HEROS WIN, DASHING ACE and GOOD JOB were sent for sampling.
