Recap by phillip woo

Darpana was patiently ridden second from the rear and two deep, straightened six deep, peeled off a tiring What A Heart into the clear at the 200m and finished off powerfully to get up in the final stride to nail Gallant Mambo, who got away with an uncontested lead and looked the winner. Well-punted late, Brothers In Arms was cast four deep without cover in fourth, worked to second four deep at the 250m and stayed on well to be a clear-cut third. Plunged late, New Asia Rising was allowed to find his feet second from the rear and two deep from a wide gate, cornered in widest out at the tail of the field and came with a good burst late to run down What A Heart for fourth. He's certainly overdue for a win, if he can draw a gate on either surface All Friends was patiently ridden at the rear from the widest gate, pushed into the clear with one wider at the head of the straight and got going late with a ton of money coming on late. O'Halo settled midfield and two-to-three deep, rounded the final bend six deep and stayed on one-paced over the final 200m with every chance. Honey Fortune sat on the back of the speed in second and one off the fence, straightened two deep and was stopping 200m out.

Racing Incident Report

Race Five: (678) - HO SHEUNG HEUNG HANDICAP - Class 4 - 1200 Meters After being loaded, OYSTER became fractious, reared up and struck out at the front gate.

When doing so, OYSTER lost its right front plate.

As OYSTER required re-plating, the field was removed from the barriers.

The Stewards ruled that prior to being permitted to race again, OYSTER will be required to perform satisfactorily in an official barrier trial.

GLORY WIN was slow to begin.

From the outside barrier, ALL FRIENDS was taken across behind runners shortly after the start.

Shortly after the start, LUCKY BOY became unbalanced after shifting in and bumping OYSTER.

Despite being ridden along in the early stages, WHAT A HEART failed to muster speed and near the 1000 Metres was steadied and shifted across behind runners.

When questioned, M Du Plessis stated that he had been instructed to obtain a forward position on BROTHERS IN ARMS.

He said accordingly he rode his mount positively in the early stages, however, BROTHERS IN ARMS did not show sufficient speed to clear runners to his inside.

He said he had intended to shift BROTHERS IN ARMS across to race outside HONEY FORTUNE in a three wide position, however, OHALO was ridden to maintain its position to his inside.

He said having in mind the amount of work he had done on BROTHERS IN ARMS in the early stages, he did not feel it was reasonable to continue to push the horse forward in an endeavour to clear OHALO and race in a three wide position.

He said because of this he was obliged to race in a four wide position without cover outside OHALO.

DARPANA and GALLANT MAMBO were sent for sampling.
