Recap by phillip woo

Debutant Tour De Force was hustled along after a sluggish break to sit on the back of the speed in third at the 600m, swept to the lead from Call Me Achiever at the 120m and drew away for a convincing win as the favourite. He'll certainly come on for the experience and does appear to have a nice future. Market mover, Call Me Achiever set a steady pace after pinging straight to the front from gate six, turned the final bend a length on top and kept on nicely to be a clear second in his first run at Happy Valley, but the winner was too good. D Day Super settled three back and just off the rails, swung the final bend with two wider out and finished up nicely for a placing with late-betting support. Invincible Heart settled behind midfield and on the rails, shifted into the clear four deep at the 300m and stayed on all right late between runners to just grab fourth in the final few metres. China Good was reined back early on from gate 12, before tacking on third from the rear at the 600m, peeled widest out upon straightening and was doing his best work late to just edge City Of Lights and Secret Of Winning for some minor stake money. City Of Lights settled worse than midfield and two deep, rounded the final bend five deep and kept whacking away late to go close without menacing. Secret Of Winning kept on only evenly over the final 150m under a persistent left whip with every conceivable chance.

Racing Incident Report

Race Two: (704) - SHA TAU KOK RIVER HANDICAP - Class 4 - 1000 Meters SPICY SHRIMP was slow to begin.

As the start was effected, D DAY SUPER became fractious and was slow to begin.

Shortly after the start, D DAY SUPER got its head up when racing in restricted room between TOUR DE FORCE and SPICY SHRIMP which got its head on the side and shifted in away from SECRET OF WINNING.

Making the turn after the 600 Metres, SPICY SHRIMP got its head on the side and hung out.

After the 100 Metres, CITY OF LIGHTS was awkwardly positioned close to the heels of D DAY SUPER when unable to improve to the inside of that horse and to the outside of SECRET OF WINNING.

When questioned, Trainer C Fownes stated that he instructed Jockey B Prebble to obtain cover on CITY OF LIGHTS as he was of the opinion that the horse may not possess sufficient speed to be able to clear runners to its inside and take up a leading role in the race as it did at its most recent start.

He said he was concerned that if CITY OF LIGHTS was not able to cross runners to its inside, it would be left racing wide.

When questioned, W M Lai stated that after beginning awkwardly, LOVING ALL was steadied away from the heels of TOUR DE FORCE shortly after the start when that horse shifted in.

He said he commenced to ride LOVING ALL along to make up ground, however, near the 850 Metres LOVING ALL got its head up, became badly unbalanced in its action and lost ground.

He said LOVING ALL continued to race awkwardly for some distance after this and was reluctant to stretch out.

He added that he did not ride LOVING ALL out to any great extent as he was concerned regarding the manner in which it was racing.

He said LOVING ALL had previously slipped badly in a barrier trial conducted at Happy Valley Racecourse prior to its first race start, however, since that time the horse had raced satisfactorily.

A veterinary inspection of LOVING ALL after the race did not show any significant findings.

The performance of LOVING ALL was considered unacceptable.

Before being allowed to race again, LOVING ALL will be required to perform to the satisfaction of the Stewards in an official barrier trial around a bend and be subjected to an official veterinary examination.

After the race, the Veterinary Officer reported that INVINCIBLE HEART had lost its left front plate.

TOUR DE FORCE and CALL ME ACHIEVER were sent for sampling.
