Recap by phillip woo

Ever Beauty was bustled to lead one off the fence from Gold Edition at the 750m, cornered nearly two lengths on top, peaked on his run 50m out, but did have enough to hold off Smart Kids for a second win from his past three starts. Smart Kids sat on the back of the speed, steadied back to fifth along the rails by Gold Edition at the 800m, stayed to the inside upon straightening and was closing the gap late to make it close at the finish. He was unlucky not to have come out the winner as the best-backed galloper before the jump. Favourite Gold Edition mustered quickest, handed up to settle third at the 700m, straightened three deep and kept on reasonably well to be a clear third. Friends Of Yan Oi rushed up to settle fourth and one off the fence, swung the final bend with one wider out and made some ground late. Palepale travelled three deep around midfield, swung the final bend widest out and made some progress late without threatening with a return to Happy Valley. Emperor Blitz rushed up to settle outside the leader from the widest alley at the 600m, straightened four deep and was stopping 200m out. Danewin Winning had trouble staying in touch third from the rear and two deep, forced deeper out at the 500m by Jade Molly, cornered five wide and never looked likely. Jade Christy copped a bad check to settle second from the rear at the 800m, tended to drift out sharply approaching the final bend and never was a factor thereafter.

Racing Incident Report

Race Three: (705) - KAM TIN RIVER HANDICAP - Class 3 - 1000 Meters FRIENDS OF YAN OI was crowded for room at the start between GOLD EDITION and EVER BEAUTY which shifted in.

M L Yeung (GOLD EDITION) pleaded guilty to a charge of careless riding [Rule 100(1)] in that near the 850 Metres he permitted his mount to shift in when not clear of SMART KIDS, resulting in that horse being checked and being taken in across the rightful running of JADE MOLLY which as a result was severely checked and lost the running to which it was rightfully entitled.

JUN JU, which was following JADE MOLLY, was also severely checked in consequence.

M L Yeung was suspended from riding in races for a period to expire on Thursday, 5 July 2012 on which day he may resume race riding (2 Hong Kong racedays).

The commencement of the suspension was deferred until after the Sha Tin racemeeting this Sunday, 24 June 2012.

In addition, M L Yeung was fined $30,000 in lieu of a suspension for a period incorporating 1 further raceday.

Approaching and rounding the first turn after the 600 Metres, JADE MOLLY got its head on the side and hung out badly and in doing so made contact with DANEWIN WINNING, resulting in that horse being taken wider.

JUN JU, which was following, was also taken wider as a result of this incident and near the 550 Metres was shifted in to avoid racing wide.

JADE MOLLY continued to hang out and near the 500 Metres hung out abruptly across the heels of DANEWIN WINNING.

A veterinary inspection of JADE MOLLY after the race revealed that the horse had bled from both nostrils.

A veterinary inspection of DANEWIN WINNING after the race did not show any significant findings.

GOLD EDITION, EVER BEAUTY and SMART KIDS were sent for sampling.
