Recap by phillip woo

Sunshine Kid pressed forward from a wide gate to settle second and one off the fence, assumed a narrow lead at the 250m and just held off Brilliant One by the slimmest of margins for an overdue win. Brilliant One settled three back and on the fence, cornered in four deep, switched off heels into the clear at the 250m and finished up nicely to come up just short to continue a brilliant campaign at 10-years of age. Forza enjoyed the box-seat from gate one, stayed to the inside upon straightening and kept on well in a much-improved run for a placing. Time Runner went forward to lead through steady fractions, cornered in narrowly on top, was headed 250m out and gave way over the final 50m. Late-fancied favourite Super Brother settled fourth and one off the fence, straightened three deep and whacked on one-paced under a steady flow of the right whip. Twin Turbo travelled three lengths back in fifth and one off the fence, swung the final bend with two wider out and made some progress late without menacing. Early favourite Heartland made his run worse than midfield and two deep, straightened three wide and only held his ground in the dash to the line in his Happy Valley debut with the blinkers removed. City Delight made his run behind midfield and on the rails, stayed to the inside upon straightening and made no impression at all. Perfect Gear swung the final bend four deep and never was a factor, despite a drop in grade.

Racing Incident Report

Race Five: (707) - SHAN PUI RIVER HANDICAP - Class 4 - 1200 Meters Shortly after the start, CITY DELIGHT was steadied away from the heels of TIME RUNNER.

Also shortly after the start, PERFECT GEAR was crowded for room between TAKE THE RAP and PURE FORCE, both of which shifted ground.

From the outside barrier, HAPPY AMBASSADOR was taken across behind runners shortly after the start.

M Chadwick (SUPER BROTHER) dropped his whip near the 100 Metres.

As this was the third occasion M Chadwick had dropped his whip in races this season, he was advised that should he offend again in the near future, he may be penalized.

Throughout the race, TAKE THE RAP travelled wide and without cover.

After the race, M Du Plessis reported that PURE FORCE did not feel comfortable in its action.

A veterinary inspection of PURE FORCE after the race did not show any significant findings.

A veterinary inspection of PERFECT GEAR after the race did not show any significant findings, however, the horse was unable to be scoped.

A veterinary inspection of HEARTLAND after the race did not show any significant findings.

After the race, an endoscopic examination was conducted on SUNSHINE KID at the request of Trainer C W Chang.

The Veterinary Surgeon said this examination showed a substantial amount of blood in the horse's trachea.

Before being allowed to race again, SUNSHINE KID will be subjected to an official veterinary examination.
