Recap by phillip woo

Keen Marie was patiently ridden third from the rear and along the rails, straightened three deep and got all the gaps to hit the front 120m out to notch a first success at Happy Valley and third this season from nine outings. Silver Osmanthus was a clear last after being crowded after breaking awkwardly, cornered in three deep, switching out of a jam into the clear with four wider out at the 250m and was running on nicely for a pleasing performance with a ton of money late. He's acclimatising with racing and looks a winner for next season. Firming favourite Gift is Gift was near the back and deep early on, before taking closer order without cover in midfield at the 800m, swung the final bend with two wider out and stayed on well to secure third prize. Mentor sat on the back of the speed in fourth and along the fence, straightened three-to-four deep, worked to second 50m out and was headed late for a placing. Flying Smart settled behind midfield and two deep, hit the straight with one wider out and made some ground without threatening. China Power tracked the leader Ro mantic City in second, assumed the lead 150m out and was swamped 50m out. Frederick Engels made his run second from the rear and one off the rails, straightened with three wider out and was getting going late when the race was all but over. Romantic City hit the straight a length on top and was running on empty 100m out.

Racing Incident Report

Race Seven: (738) - HONG TUNG HANDICAP - Class 2 - 1200 Meters SEA THE PEARLS was withdrawn on 2.7.12 by order of the Stewards acting on veterinary advice (inflamed right fore tendon region) and was replaced by Standby Declared Starter ROMANTIC CITY (W M Lai).

Before being allowed to race again, SEA THE PEARLS will be subjected to an official veterinary examination.

SILVER OSMANTHUS was slow to begin and shortly after the start when crowded for room between KEEN MARIE which shifted out and FREDERICK ENGELS which was taken in by MENTOR.

Shortly after the start, GIFT IS GIFT was steadied away from the heels of BOULD MOVER which shifted in abruptly after being bumped by ROMANTIC CITY.

For some distance after the 1100 Metres, FREDERICK ENGELS got its head up on a number of occasions and proved very difficult to settle.

After the 800 Metres, GIFT IS GIFT was left racing wide and without cover.

Near the 300 Metres, SILVER OSMANTHUS was held up for clear running and shifted out away from the heels of BOULD MOVER which shifted out when giving ground.

At the 200 Metres, K C Leung (HAPPY YEAH YEAH) dropped his whip.

Having in mind K C Leungs prior record of having dropped his whip in races, he was fined the sum of $5,000.

Over the final 200 Metres, FREDERICK ENGELS was not able to obtain clear running when held up behind GIFT IS GIFT and inside FLYING SMART.

Because of this, FREDERICK ENGELS was not tested.

A veterinary inspection of LONDON CHINA TOWN after the race did not show any significant findings.

GIFT IS GIFT, KEEN MARIE and SILVER OSMANTHUS were sent for sampling.
