Recap by phillip woo

Punted late to jump co-favourite Double Dragon had to work a bit to lead from a middle alley, straightened nearly a length on top and repelled a challenge from Cosmo One at the 200m to edge clear over the final 50m for back-to-back first-up successes with a return to Class Four. Cosmo One travelled on the back of the speed in third and one off the fence, moved to second at the 800m, drew nearly level three deep at the 200m and found one better in the battle to the line. Super Horse bided his time second from the rear and two to three deep, swung the final bend with one wider out and finished up nicely to edge out Notus for third. He'll be one follow at a mile. Notus rolled forward after a wide trip to settle third in the run at the 1,000m, straightened four deep and kept on gamely. Shining Treasures settled worse than midfield and between horses, rallied five wide upon straightening and made a steady late bid. Empire City travelled a handy fifth and one off the fence, turned the final bend four deep and kept up an even gallop over the last 100m. Firming favourite Danzulu bided his time along the fence and second from the rear, turned in three deep and ran on without threatening in another poor performance.

Racing Incident Report

Race Five: (023) - TAILORBIRD HANDICAP (Sec 1) - Class 4 - 1400 Meters GAIN MORE was withdrawn on 15.9.12 by order of the Stewards acting on veterinary advice (lame left fore).

Before being allowed to race again, GAIN MORE will be subjected to an official veterinary examination.

NOTUS began awkwardly and then throughout the race travelled wide and without cover.

DANZULU was slow to begin.

From a wide barrier, SURE CHAMP was taken across behind runners shortly after the start.

For some distance near the 1100 Metres, BACKSTREET FIGHTER was awkwardly placed close to the heels of HAIR BEAUTY.

Near the 900 Metres, BACKSTREET FIGHTER was checked away from the heels of HAIR BEAUTY which itself was awkwardly placed close to the heels of BESPOKE MASTER.

BACKSTREET FIGHTER was unable to obtain clear running until near the 250 Metres.

A Suborics pleaded guilty to a breach of Rule 100(2) in that he failed to ride EMPIRE CITY, 6th placegetter, out to the end of the race to the satisfaction of the Stewards.

For this offence, A Suborics was fined the sum of $20,000.

A veterinary inspection of DANZULU and BESPOKE MASTER after the race did not show any significant findings.

DANZULU, DOUBLE DRAGON and COSMO ONE were sent for sampling.
