Recap by phillip woo

Silver Osmanthus was patiently ridden second from the rear and two deep, improved a position closer at the 600m, turned the final bend with one wider out and let down brilliantly to get up in the final 10m for the win after putting the writing on the wall at his final run last term. Gold Racer was handy in the run, lost ground back to midfield at the 600m, swept to the lead two deep at the 100m and found one too good in the end. Plunged late, Red Lucky Star made his run at the tail from gate nine, swung the final bend widest out and was finishing full of run to take third. Hawthorne was a prominently ridden fourth and one off the fence behind the fast pace of Ride On The Fire, straightened four deep and kept on well to lose a placing in the final few strides. Favourite Gamekeepers had to be niggled along behind midfield and two deep, straightened three deep in a traffic jam behind the tiring Lucky Red and Emperor Blitz and was never tested in the stretch drive. He can be forgiven for this run. Well-punted late, Demon Demon faded back to settle second from the rear at the 600m after jumping with the leaders, straightened two deep and had to duck-and-weave around the tiring speed while making progress late. Ever Beauty never gave the leader Ride On The Fire a break to his outside and he paid for it when stopping badly over the final 200m.

Racing Incident Report

Race Five: (033) - THE COMMUNITY CHEST CUP (HANDICAP) - Class 3 - 1000 Meters DEMON DEMON began awkwardly.

GOLD RACER shifted out at the start and bumped the hindquarters of EVER BEAUTY which became unbalanced.

From a wide barrier, RED LUCKY STAR was taken across behind runners shortly after the start.

Passing the 950 Metres, GOLD RACER was steadied when crowded for room between HAWTHORNE and EVER BEAUTY, both of which shifted ground.

Near the 550 Metres, GOLD RACER became unbalanced and lost ground after getting its head on the side and shifting out towards the heels of HAWTHORNE.

For a short distance after this, GAMEKEEPERS was awkwardly placed close to the heels of GOLD RACER.

Approaching the 200 Metres, GAMEKEEPERS was checked when disappointed for running between EVER BEAUTY which was giving ground and EMPEROR BLITZ which shifted in.

After this, GAMEKEEPERS was not able to obtain clear running until passing the 100 Metres.

When questioned regarding the disappointing performance of EVER BEAUTY, A Suborics stated that he had been instructed to lead if possible, however, he was not able to clear RIDE ON THE FIRE to his inside and therefore he elected to sit outside that horse.

He said his mount travelled satisfactorily in the early and middle stages, however, when RIDE ON THE FIRE quickened rounding the Home Turn, EVER BEAUTY was not able to sprint with that horse.

He said in the Straight he rode EVER BEAUTY along, however, the horse did not respond to his riding and was disappointing in the manner in which it weakened.

A veterinary inspection of EVER BEAUTY after the race did not show any significant findings.

After the race, the Veterinary Officer reported that RED LUCKY STAR had lost its left front plate.
