Recap by phillip woo

Early favourite Real Dragon came one off the fence in fourth at the 1,000m, straightened four deep and got up 50m out for the win. He's always a chance in the bottom grade, but is likely to find things harder yet again with a return to Class Four for his next run. Good Looking Watch moved forward to sit second outside the slow pace of leader Dynamic Cross at the 1,100m, out-dueled that one for a narrow lead 100m out and found one too good in the end. Dynamic Cross straightened narrowly on top and grudgingly gave way over the last 100m. Young Supreme saved ground in midfield along the fence, shifted four deep upon straightening and made some ground without threatening as the late-fancied favourite. Starlit Warrior sat on the back of the speed in third and held his ground without ever looking a chance of hitting the board in the dash to the line. Flying Keeper travelled second from the rear and along the fence and was doing his best work late when the race was all but over. Lucky Army kept on passed beaten gallopers down the outside. Sparkling was another running on late. Specked at odds, Friends Support was caught off the track without cover behind midfield and was struggling soon after straightening. Great Show broke down mid-straight.

Racing Incident Report

Race One: (075) - BEECH HANDICAP - Class 5 - 1650 Meters FLYING KEEPER and STARLIT WARRIOR both began awkwardly.

YOUNG SUPREME shifted out abruptly at the start and bumped GREAT SHOW.

FORTUNE COOKIE began awkwardly and shortly after the start was bumped by SPARKLING which shifted out.

From a wide barrier, LUCKY ARMY was taken across behind runners shortly after the start.

For some distance in the early and middle stages, FANTASTISCH proved very difficult to settle and got its head up repeatedly.

Passing the winning post on the first occasion, YOUNG SUPREME got its head up when awkwardly placed close to the heels of REAL DRAGON.

Near the 1300 Metres, FANTASTISCH, which was continuing to race ungenerously, was momentarily crowded for room between YOUNG SUPREME which continued to be awkwardly placed close to the heels of REAL DRAGON and FORTUNE COOKIE (C W Wong) which shifted in.

C W Wong was advised to exercise more care in future.

After the 1000 Metres, FORTUNE COOKIE was left racing wide and without cover.

Shortly after entering the Straight, GREAT SHOW broke down and was retired from the race.

For the majority of the race, FRIENDS SUPPORT travelled wide and without cover.

When questioned, T Clark stated that he had been asked to ride YOUNG SUPREME with cover if possible.

He said it was felt that YOUNG SUPREME was not finishing off its races when leading and that the horse had previously been successful when being ridden off the speed.

He said for this reason shortly after the start he obtained a position behind REAL DRAGON, however, in the early stages was forced further back than anticipated when REAL DRAGON allowed horses to its outside to cross.

He said when REAL DRAGON shifted away from the fence after the 1000 Metres, he was able to improve his position whilst continuing to follow REAL DRAGON, the eventual winner of the race, throughout the event.

A veterinary inspection of LUCKY ARMY and SPARKLING after the race did not show any significant findings.

YOUNG SUPREME, REAL DRAGON and GOOD LOOKING WATCH were sent for sampling.
