Recap by phillip woo

Real Dragon sat second behind the runaway leader Fortune Together, raced to the lead three deep at the 250m and kept up a sound gallop for back-to-back course-and-distance wins, despite a return to Class Four. Firming favourite, Super Tiger settled midfield on the rails, worked to second three deep at the 100m and kept on well to be a clear second. Good Thinker travelled fifth and one off the fence, straightened five deep and ran on nicely to grab third 50m out in his first attempt at Happy Valley. Cosmo One saved ground on the back of the speed in fourth, cornered in four deep, went to second at the 150m and was running on empty 50m out to just miss a placing with money pouring in late. Storm Unicorn bided his time second from the rear and three deep from a wide gate, swung the final bend widest out and was hitting the line with purpose in an improved performance with a gear change to a shadow roll. Easy Gold made some ground late near the inside without threatening from behind midfield. Mochi made his run third from the rear and one off the paint from a wide gate, rounded the final bend six deep and made some ground late without menacing. Fortune Together broke awkwardly, straightened near two lengths on top and was stopping badly 200m out.

Racing Incident Report

Race Five: (115) - PLOVER COVE HANDICAP - Class 4 - 1650 Meters At declaration time, W C Marwing was declared as the rider of both CHINA DELIGHT and COSMO ONE.

It was established that W C Marwing had a firm commitment to ride CHINA DELIGHT.

As such, the Stewards permitted D Whyte to be substituted as the rider of COSMO ONE.

For this declaration error, W C Marwing was fined $2,000.

CHINA DELIGHT began awkwardly.

From the outside barrier, STORM UNICORN was taken across behind runners shortly after the start.

After the 1100 Metres, FORTUNE TOGETHER proved difficult to settle.

Near the 1000 Metres, CHINA DELIGHT got its head up when being checked away from the heels of EASY GOLD.

WINSOME, which was following, was hampered in consequence.

Approaching the 200 Metres, MAGNANIMOUS was taken wider and was crowded for room between STORM UNICORN and AUSPICIOUS START (Apprentice K C Ng) which shifted out when giving ground.

Apprentice Ng was advised to ensure that he makes every endeavour to keep his mounts on a straight course in similar circumstances.

When questioned, Mr C Fownes, the trainer of WINSOME, stated that as the horse was attempting 1650 Metres for the first time tonight, from barrier 8, he did not want the horse to be left racing wide and possibly without cover, therefore he instructed C K Tong, the rider of WINSOME, to shift the horse across behind runners immediately after the start so as to ensure that it was able to obtain cover and finish off the race.

A veterinary inspection of MOCHI after the race did not show any significant findings.

REAL DRAGON and SUPER TIGER were sent for sampling.
