Recap by phillip woo

Favourite Mount Victory was nicely rated in fifth and one off the fence, cornered in five wide, swept to the lead 100m out and held off the late surge of King Galileo to score a maiden win. King Galileo settled behind midfield and two deep, switched off a wall of horses into the clear with four wider out at the 250m and finished up nicely to make it close at the finish. Chantilly settled midfield and near the inside, angled into the clear with two wider out rounding the final bend and responded nicely to the right whip to easily take third in his return to action. It was a nice effort off the break and he does appear to have bottomed in the ratings. Sunny Sky was always pulling in second after handing up the lead to Redoute's Fortune after 600m, reclaimed the front approaching the 500m mark, straightened near two lengths on top and was giving way over the final 100m. Full Spirit made his run at the rear and near the inside after breaking a tad slow, peeled into the clear with three wider upon straightening and went to the line reasonably well in his first try at a route. Supreme Tycoon was prominently ridden in fourth along the fence, had to check badly between runners at the 200m and kept up a steady gallop thereafter. He should have gone closer.

Racing Incident Report

Race One: (140) - BOSTON HANDICAP - Class 5 - 2200 Meters NOBLE FLIER was crowded for room at the start between MOUNT VICTORY and GORGEOUS RULER, both of which shifted ground.

KING GALILEO and LUCKY ARMY bumped at the start.

From wide barriers, FULL SPIRIT and SPARKLING were taken across behind runners shortly after the start.

For some distance after entering the Straight on the first occasion, SUNNY SKY got its head up when being steadied to allow REDOUTE'S FORTUNE to cross.

Approaching the 400 Metres, SUPREME TYCOON shifted out and bumped the hindquarters of GORGEOUS RULER which became unbalanced.

Rounding the Home Turn, SUPREME TYCOON and GORGEOUS RULER raced tight as SUPREME TYCOON improved into a narrow run between that horse and REDOUTE'S FORTUNE.

KING GALILEO had difficulty obtaining clear running in the early part of the Straight.

Near the 200 Metres, SUPREME TYCOON was checked when crowded for room inside GORGEOUS RULER which was taken in slightly by MOUNT VICTORY (Z Purton) and REDOUTE'S FORTUNE (R Fourie) which shifted out.

Z Purton was advised to exercise care whilst R Fourie was severely reprimanded and advised that in similar circumstances he must make a greater effort than he did on this occasion to prevent his mounts from shifting ground.

A veterinary inspection of LUCKY ARMY and NOBLE FLIER after the race did not show any significant findings.

After the race, an endoscopic examination was conducted on MOUNT VICTORY at the request of Trainer P O'Sullivan.

The Veterinary Surgeon reported that this examination showed a substantial amount of blood in the horse's trachea.

Before being allowed to race again, MOUNT VICTORY will be subjected to an official veterinary examination.

MOUNT VICTORY and KING GALILEO were sent for sampling.
