Recap by phillip woo

Trip specialist Jumbo Gold settled behind midfield and two deep, rounded the final bend with one wider out and let down nicely to get up in the final bob for the win off a competitive mark in his season debut. Kick Serve enjoyed the run of the race in fourth along the fence, swept to the lead three deep at the 100m and was unfortunate to find one too good in the end. Cape Canaveral sat one off in fourth, cornered in four deep and wore down Gamekeepers late to snare a placing with every chance. Gamekeepers ranged up from the widest gate to challenge Apollo Cavalier for the front, shot clear by a length entering the straight and gave ground over the last 100m. Apollo Cavalier vied for the lead with Gamekeepers along the fence, was headed approaching the final bend and had little to offer over the final 200m in his first run at Happy Valley. He needs a drop in class. Spurs On saved ground in midfield and on the rails, cornered in three-to-four deep and whacked on one-paced over the final 200m. The rest of the field were paddling in the run to the line.

Racing Incident Report

Race Six: (145) - LOS ANGELES HANDICAP - Class 3 - 1200 Meters TOPSPIN EXPRESS was difficult to load.

Before being allowed to race again, TOPSPIN EXPRESS will be required to perform satisfactorily in a stalls test.

BOLERO was slow to begin.

PRETTY BLUEBERRY began awkwardly, shifted out and in doing so made heavy contact with the hindquarters of APOLLO CAVALIER, resulting in PRETTY BLUEBERRY losing ground.

From a wide barrier, LOVELY BOY was taken across behind runners shortly after the start and then travelled wide and without cover for the majority of the race.

TOPSPIN EXPRESS travelled wide and without cover until after the 600 Metres.

Making the turn after the 600 Metres, PRETTY BLUEBERRY shifted out across the heels of JUMBO GOLD, resulting in SAMMY'S FALCON being crowded for room out onto BOLERO.

Passing the 500 Metres and rounding the Home Turn, CAPE CANAVERAL and KICK SERVE raced tight as KICK SERVE shifted out to obtain clear running.

Near the 50 Metres, C K Tong (APOLLO CAVALIER) dropped his whip.

A veterinary inspection of SMART KIDS after the race did not show any significant findings.

CAPE CANAVERAL, JUMBO GOLD and KICK SERVE were sent for sampling.
