Recap by phillip woo

Epee De Hua travelled sweetly in third and one off the fence, moved to second at the 700m, cornered in four deep and got up in the final few strides for the victory. Fascinating Smile led early on after a good break, before assuming the sit in the box-seat at the 700m, straightened one off the fence, hit the front 50m out and found one better in the late stages. Hero's Win made his run at the rear after bungling the start, straightened near the inside, shifted into the clear three deep at the 150m and finished up well to get up in the last bound to grab third in a three-horse photo. Invictus was hard ridden to lead from gate 12 at the 900m, cornered nearly two lengths on top and went down grudgingly in an improved effort with a drop in grade. Thumped late to start favourite, Polygold closed off steadily late to just miss out on a placing. Par Excellence made his run in midfield and on the fence, came one off upon straightening and stayed on well to just finish outside the placings. Regal Army was was yielding ground over the last 200m in another disappointing effort with a drop in grade. Happy Kaiser made his run fourth from the rear and one off the fence, swung the final bend widest out and was never a factor, despite the drop in grade. Rainbow Seeker was a vet withdrawal at the gate.

Racing Incident Report

Race One: (214) - OCEANIA HANDICAP - Class 5 - 1200 Meters After being loaded, RAINBOW SEEKER became fractious and got out under the front gates, resulting in its rider, A Suborics, being dislodged.

RAINBOW SEEKER was returned to the Start and examined by the Veterinary Officer who said in his opinion it was not suitable to race.

Acting on this advice, the Stewards ordered the withdrawal of RAINBOW SEEKER.

Before being allowed to race again, RAINBOW SEEKER will be required to perform satisfactorily in an official barrier trial and be subjected to an official veterinary examination.

Just prior to the start being effected, HEROS WIN got its head down and consequently was slow to begin.

Before being allowed to race again, HEROS WIN will be required to perform satisfactorily in a stalls test.

REGAL ARMY shifted out at the start and bumped EPEE DE HUA.

Shortly after the start, POLYGOLD was crowded for room between REGAL ARMY and LUCKY TYCOON which was taken out by PAR EXCELLENCE.

Near the 1100 Metres, REGAL ARMY shifted in and bumped LUCKY TYCOON which was awkwardly placed close to the heels of PAR EXCELLENCE.

Approaching the 1000 Metres, PAR EXCELLENCE got its head up when awkwardly placed close to the heels of FASCINATING SMILE.

Passing the 700 Metres, PAR EXCELLENCE proved difficult to settle and got its head up when being steadied away from the heels of FASCINATING SMILE.

Near the 150 Metres, PAR EXCELLENCE was checked away from the heels of INVICTUS when held up for clear running behind that horse.

For the majority of the race, FUN AND FAST travelled wide and without cover.

A veterinary inspection of REGAL ARMY and HAPPY KAISER after the race did not show any significant findings.

POLYGOLD, EPEE DE HUA and FASCINATING SMILE were sent for sampling.
