Recap by phillip woo

Favourite California Memory jumped sweetly to settle fourth along the fence, peeled four deep upon straightening and quickened nicely to move clear at the 150m for back-to-back HK Cup wins. He'll be hard to beat off set weights over this trip and further. Giofra eventually settled fourth from the back and one off the fence, weaved a run five deep upon straightening and finished up willingly to be clearly take out second at the 100m. Alcopop made his run at the rear after breaking slowly, straightened near the inside and made up a good deal of ground to snare a placing in the final 50m. Dan Excel dictated a moderate pace on the speed, was briefly headed by Feuerblitz at the 1,200m, reclaimed a half-length margin upon straightening and kept finding in a bold effort to hold fourth. Military Attack bided his time second from the rear, cornered in widest out and was making progress. Carlton House settled third from the rear and along the rails, straightened one off and whacked away one-paced. Zaidan kept on evenly and Sanois never fired in a disappointing effort.

Racing Incident Report

Race Eight: (229) - THE LONGINES HONG KONG CUP - Group One - 2000 Meters CIRRUS DES AIGLES was withdrawn on 7.12.12 by order of the Stewards acting on veterinary advice (left fore tendon injury).

SWEET ORANGE was also withdrawn on 7.12.12 by order of the Stewards acting on veterinary advice (lame right fore fetlock).

Before being allowed to race again, SWEET ORANGE will be subjected to an official veterinary examination.

Just prior to the start being effected, ALCOPOP lifted its front feet off the ground and consequently was slow to begin.

After passing the winning post on the first occasion, CALIFORNIA MEMORY got its head up when awkwardly placed close to the heels of ZAIDAN which was being steadied to allow DAN EXCEL to cross.

Near the 1100 Metres, CARLTON HOUSE shifted out when awkwardly placed close to the heels of CALIFORNIA MEMORY and in doing so improved into tight running between that horse and SAONOIS.

A short distance later, CARLTON HOUSE was steadied when unable to maintain its position between CALIFORNIA MEMORY and SAONOIS.

After the 1100 Metres, FEUERBLITZ, which was over-racing, was shifted out away from the heels of AUTUMN GOLD and allowed to improve its position.

After the 900 Metres, SAONOIS commenced to prove difficult to settle and got its head up on a number of occasions.

For the majority of the race, IRIAN travelled wide and without cover.

A veterinary inspection of IRIAN after the race found that horse to have aggravated a wound to the right fore fetlock.

A veterinary inspection of SAONOIS after the race did not show any significant findings.

CALIFORNIA MEMORY and GIOFRA were sent for sampling.
