Recap by phillip woo

Great Spirit was patiently ridden third from the rear along the rails, shifted into the clear six deep at the 250m and let down willingly to get up 30m out for an upset win at only his third local run. Flying Smart was at the back early on, swung the final bend widest out with only one behind him and ran on strongly down the outside to get up in the final few strides for second. Capital K saved ground along the fence in midfield, shifted into the clear four deep soon after straightening and worked to the line steadily to grab third in the final bob of heads. Smart Kids travelled one off the fence in second, worked to the lead from Glory Horsie at the 200m and was pipped late for a placing. Jumbo Gold was never on the course ahead of midfield from gate 12, swung the final bend five wide and kept up a steady gallop late. He'll have to be considered when drawing a proper gate at the Valley next time out. Happy Forever was prominently ridden in fourth and one off the fence, rallied four wide upon straightening and came up one-paced over the final 100m with every chance. Firming favourite Glory Horsie wasn't burning up the track at the head of the field, cornered a half-length on top and was giving ground over the last 100m.
