Recap by phillip woo

Plunged late to jump favourite, Sea Dragon was handy in the run two off the stands side, worked to the front 300m out and drew clear in the final 100m for an impressive debut win. He appears to have scope to head higher. Dapper Boy settled behind midfield and behind Sea Dragon and ran on nicely to get up 50m out for a placing. He was suited by the step back to 1,000m. Jade Christy settled midfield and near the centre of the course and ran on steadily to get up in the final few strides for third. Smart Volatility led in the centre of the course on his own, was running about under pressure and lost a placing late. He's still showing inexperience. Speed Thunder travelled with the leaders outside Smart Volatility and kept grinding away over the final 50m in a pleasing debut. T-Bolt was prominent outside Speed Thunder, was under plenty of pressure at the 400m and kept on one-paced over the final 150m with a step back in distance. Joy Together settled third from the rear and three off the stands side and made some ground in an improved effort with the tongue-tie going on. Regency Champion settled fourth from the rear near the far side from an inside gate, lay out under pressure and was never a factor. Ocean Wide showed good early pace and got tired 300m out.

Racing Incident Report

Race Three: (326)-BILLION WIN HANDICAP - Class 4 - 1000 Metres TREASURE MAN and BEAR SUPREME were slow to begin.

T-BOLT began awkwardly and shortly after the start was buffeted for room between JADE CHRISTY and SPEED THUNDER which shifted out.

HIGHLAND DRAGON began awkwardly.

Shortly after the start, GOLDEN LEGEND was awkwardly placed inside the heels of SMART VOLATILITY.

Also shortly after the start, HIGHLAND DRAGON and JOY TOGETHER were shifted across behind runners.

Over the final 400 Metres, SMART VOLATILITY raced greenly and shifted out on a number of occasions.

Passing the 400 Metres, DAPPER BOY was awkwardly placed close to the heels of SEA DRAGON.

Near the 350 Metres, OCEAN ROAR was steadied away from the heels of T-BOLT which for some distance had been inclined to get its head on the side and hang out.

For the majority of the race, GOLDEN LEGEND got its head on the side and lay out.

When questioned regarding the disappointing performance of REGENCY CHAMPION, F Coetzee stated that he placed the horse under pressure near the 800 Metres to hold its position as it was not showing early speed.

He said had he not placed the horse under pressure at this stage, it gave him the impression that it would have given ground and would have lost touch with the leaders.

He said he had to ride REGENCY CHAMPION along for a considerable distance after this in order to attempt to hold its position and because of this REGENCY CHAMPION was never able to travel on the bridle.

He added that after the 400 Metres REGENCY CHAMPION got its head on the side and shifted out and, in his opinion, was very disappointing.

Trainer A S Cruz advised that after todays disappointing performance, he believed that REGENCY CHAMPION would be better suited by stepping up in distance as this may allow it to travel more comfortably than it did today.

A veterinary inspection of REGENCY CHAMPION after the race did not show any significant findings.

A veterinary inspection of BEAR SUPREME after the race did not show any significant findings.

SEA DRAGON and DAPPER BOY were sent for sampling.
