Recap by phillip woo

Eagle Regiment was prominent in the run one off the stands side, rushed to the front at the 250m, quickly opened up two lengths and kept on gamely to score a nice victory. It was a sensational training feat off a lengthy time on the sidelines with soundness issues to chalk up back-to-back wins in this race. Frederick Engels was at the rear after getting hampered at the break, still had all ahead of him at the 400m and quickened brilliantly to run home a clear second. He's the heir apparent to the sprint throne. Best Eleven settled midfield and one off the stands side and ran on nicely off a knee surgery in September to inject value into the tierce. He too continues to raise his game as a sprinter. Captain Sweet kept on gamely to edge out late-plunged favourite Lucky Nine for fourth. Lucky Nine was under pressure 300m out and came up one-paced. He's certainly better over a longer trip. Amber Sky was fastest into stride near the stands side and was yielding ground over the 200m in his first crack at the big leagues. Stablemates Joy And Fun and Cerise Cherry showed very little.

Racing Incident Report

Race Eight: (349)-THE KENT & CURWEN CENTENARY SPRINT CUP - Hong Kong Group One - 1000 Metres GO BABY GO, which was leaning on the outside of its stall, began awkwardly, shifted out and bumped the hindquarters of ABLE SPEED.

Shortly after the start, FREDERICK ENGELS was checked and VITAL FLYER and EAGLE REGIMENT crowded for room between FLYING COLOURS and AMBER SKY (M Chadwick) which shifted out after bumping with LUCKY NINE.

As the Stewards were satisfied that M Chadwick made every endeavour to prevent his mount from shifting out, no further action was taken.

At the 800 Metres, VITAL FLYER was awkwardly placed inside the heels of EAGLE REGIMENT which shifted in.

At the 400 Metres, VITAL FLYER became unbalanced and near the 300 Metres was steadied when crowded for room between FLYING COLOURS and BEST ELEVEN which shifted out.

Near the 100 Metres, GO BABY GO was steadied when crowded for room between CERISE CHERRY and JOY AND FUN (G Mossé) which shifted in when hanging.

G Mossé was severely reprimanded and advised that, notwithstanding that JOY AND FUN was hanging in, he should have made a far greater effort to prevent his mount from shifting ground than he did on this occasion.

After the race, the Veterinary Officer reported that FLYING COLOURS had bled from both nostrils.

A veterinary inspection of CERISE CHERRY and GO BABY GO after the race did not show any significant findings.

LUCKY NINE, EAGLE REGIMENT and FREDERICK ENGELS were sent for sampling.
