Recap by phillip woo

Late-fancied favourite Lucky Nine was taken back to settle midfield and one off the fence, rounded the final bend with one wider out, swept to the lead at the 150m and kept on gamely to cement his credentials as the top sprinter. Early favourite Frederick Engels settled second from the rear, peeled widest out and was doing some fine work late to get up 10m from the line for second. He remains the heir to the sprint throne. Captain Sweet led from gate seven, turned the corner narrowly on top after setting a steady pace, was headed at the 350m and fought back doggedly to reclaim a placing in the last 100m. Time After Time settled third from the rear, straightened three deep and got going late to secure fourth in the final few metres. He seems better suited over 1,400m. Cerise Cherry enjoyed the box-seat run, split runners to hit the lead one off the fence at the 350m and was running on empty in the last 150m. Best Eleven kept on one-paced with every chance. Admiration was struggling 300m out. Joy And Fun was caught three deep and his run blew up 150m out. Final Answer was up in the air at the start and never a factor as expected.

Racing Incident Report

Race Seven: (395)-THE CHAIRMAN'S SPRINT PRIZE - Hong Kong Group One - 1200Metres

As the start was effected, FINAL ANSWER became fractious, reared and lost a considerable amount of ground.

Before being allowed to race again, FINAL ANSWER will be required to perform satisfactorily in an official barrier trial.

Approaching the 1000 Metres, LUCKY NINE was steadied when crowded for room between JOY AND FUN and ADMIRATION (N Callan) which shifted in before being corrected by its rider.

N Callan was advised to exercise care.

After the 1000 Metres, JOY AND FUN proved difficult to settle and got its head up on a number of occasions and after the 900 Metres was left racing wide and without cover.

Near the 250 Metres, TIME AFTER TIME was awkwardly placed close to the heels of CERISE CHERRY after being taken in by ADMIRATION which got its head on the side and shifted in under pressure.

After the 250 Metres, CERISE CHERRY got its head on the side and hung in and in doing so raced tight outside CAPTAIN SWEET for some distance near the 150 Metres.

A veterinary inspection of BEST ELEVEN after the race did not show any significant findings.

LUCKY NINE and FREDERICK ENGELS were sent for sampling.
