Recap by phillip woo

Punted late, Military Attack was given a dream run on the back of the speed in fourth along the fence, came one off upon straightening, swooped to the lead at the 200m and drew clear for a convincing win. Pure Champion settled behind midfield and one off the fence, shifted into the clear with three wider out at the 350m and finished up nicely to edge out Xtension for second. Xtension was parked on the back of the speed, cornered in four deep and stayed on gamely. Fay Fay settled midfield and on the rails, straightened three deep and got going without looking likely of getting into the placings. Irian was switched off at the tail, circled runners at the 650m, swung the final bend with two wider out and ran on steadily. Dan Excel is possibly better over a mile or 1,800m. Zaidan made some progress without menacing. Same World set a muddling pace on the lead, cornered nearly two lengths on top and was stopping 150m out. California Memory was kept in a pocket by Zaidan and Irian when trying to shift out for a clear run at the 400m and was never tested.

Racing Incident Report

Race Seven: (413)-THE CITIBANK HONG KONG GOLD CUP - Hong Kong Group One - 2000Metres

DAN EXCEL began awkwardly.

MILITARY ATTACK shifted out at the start and bumped XTENSION.

When questioned, M Chadwick stated that CALIFORNIA MEMORY relaxed well throughout the early and middle stages and travelled comfortably.

He said rounding the Home Turn he attempted to shift CALIFORNIA MEMORY wider to follow IRIAN when that horse improved, however, CALIFORNIA MEMORY did not respond his riding and he was not able to shift out at this time.

He said whilst CALIFORNIA MEMORY raced in restricted room at times in the Straight, the horse was not travelling well enough to improve into the gaps.

A veterinary inspection of CALIFORNIA MEMORY immediately following the race revealed that it was displaying an irregular heart rhythm.

Before being permitted to race again, CALIFORNIA MEMORY will be required to perform satisfactorily in an official barrier trial and be subjected to an official veterinary examination.

A veterinary inspection of ZAIDAN immediately following the race did not show any significant findings.

CALIFORNIA MEMORY, MILITARY ATTACK and PURE CHAMPION were sent for sampling.
