Recap by phillip woo

Akeed Mofeed settled midfield and three deep with cover from a wide gate, turned the final bend with two wider out and quickened nicely to take control 2000m out for a handy win in good time and likely cement his status as the Derby favourite in 15 days. Kyara made his run fourth from the rear and along the inside after overracing leading the gate, peeled into the clear with three wider out at the 350m and finished up nicely to get up 50m from the line for second. Wrath Of Fire settled behind midfield and on the rails, was tight for room between runners at the 350m, worked into the open at the 250m and finished up well to nail a placing in the final 20m. Beauty Lead settled one-out, one-back, moved to second four deep at the 150m and was swamped late for a placing. Emperor Claudius rolled forward form gate 10 to dictate the running, straightened a length on top and was one-paced over the final 200m. King Of Scots settled three back and on the rails, came two off soon after straightening and kept plugging away. Blazing Speed cornered in five wide and kept grinding away. Taknam stayed to the inside upon straightening and did not respond to a hustling ride. Genki Twins had a hard run in midfield without cover and was gone soon after straightening widest out.

Racing Incident Report

Race Ten: (434)-TAIPA HANDICAP - Class 2 - 1800Metres

KYARA began awkwardly.

From wide barriers, TAKNAM, SILVER GRECIAN and FREE JUDGEMENT were all taken across behind runners shortly after the start.

Near the 1700 Metres, NAVEL ORANGE momentarily raced in restricted room inside BLAZING SPEED.

In the early stages, CHATER DREAM was left racing wide and without cover and approaching the 1200 Metres was allowed to stride into a more forward position closer to the rail.

After the 1000 Metres, GENKI TWINS was left racing wide and without cover.

Rounding the Home Turn, NAVEL ORANGE was awkwardly placed close to the heels of BLAZING SPEED.

WRATH OF LIFE had difficulty obtaining clear running in the early part of the Straight.

Passing the 50 Metres, HOT SHOT was steadied away from the heels of BEAUTY LEAD which shifted in slightly.

When questioned regarding the performance of TAKNAM, U Rispoli stated that in the middle stages he commenced to ride the horse along to have it improve its position to be closer to the rear of the field.

He said he was obliged to niggle at TAKNAM for the majority of the race and to place it under significant pressure after the 600 Metres.

He said he continued to ride TAKNAM vigorously in the Straight, however, the horse finished off the race only one-paced.

A veterinary inspection of TAKNAM immediately following the race did not show any significant findings.

Y T Cheng stated that near the 1700 Metres FREE JUDGEMENT appeared to lock up behind and became badly unbalanced in its action.

Having regard to the incident near the 1700 Metres, the performance of FREE JUDGEMENT, which also finished tailed out, was considered unacceptable.

He said he commenced to ride his mount along after the 700 Metres to prevent BLAZING SPEED from shifting out to his inside, however, GENKI TWINS was not travelling well enough and BLAZING SPEED was able to shift to the outside of BEAUTY LEAD passing the 500 Metres.

He said he continued to ride GENKI TWINS along, however, the horse gave ground noticeably and despite being ridden along in the early part of the Straight continued to give ground.

He added although the horse was up in grade today and was required to race without cover over the final 1000 Metres, nonetheless it was extremely disappointing given the manner in which it weakened in the Straight.

Trainer A Schutz stated that he was at a loss to explain the horses performance.

He said GENKI TWINS had trained on well since its last run and he had expected a forward showing in todays race.

He said despite the circumstances of the race not favouring GENKI TWINS, nonetheless the horse was disappointing in the manner in which it weakened out of the race from the Home Turn.
