Recap by phillip woo

Shahjee held the lead early on before settling second on the fence at the 800m, reclaimed the front passing the 150m and kept finding to score a third win this season on both surfaces after a gelding operation in the summer. Rumba King was no better than three or four deep while travelling behind midfield, turned the final bend with two wider out and was doing some fine work late to get up in the final 20m for second. New Glory rolled forward from a wide gate to poke his head in front one off the fence at the 800m, cornered nearly a length on top, was headed 150m out and pipped late for the Quinella spot. Polymer Win settled midfield and three deep with cover, swung the final bend five deep and stayed on reasonably well to wear down Green Zone 50m out for fourth. Green Zone went forward from the widest gate to park third in the run one or two off the rails, cornered in four deep and was giving way 100m out. Carry The Zeal made his run near the back along the fence, pushed into the clear with three wider out at the 350m and was getting going late when the race was all but over. Bould Mover was rated one off in fifth, straightened three deep and was grinding away late without ever threatening.

Racing Incident Report

Race Eight: (478)-KAI YIP HANDICAP - Class 3 - 1200Metres

On arrival at the Start, CARRY THE ZEAL had its left front plate refitted.

CARRY THE ZEAL was examined by the Veterinary Officer who said in his opinion it was suitable to race.

As the start was effected, SUNNY FAY lifted its front feet off the ground and consequently lost ground.

Shortly after the start, TURF MAGIC was crowded for room between CARRY THE ZEAL which was taken in by LONGWAH SUPREME and SUNNY FAY which was taken out by RUMBA KING.

Whilst the Stewards were satisfied that the riding of C Y Ho (GREEN ZONE), 5th placegetter, over the concluding stages did not affect the horses finishing position, he was nonetheless reminded of his obligation to ride his mounts out at least hands and heels to the end of the race where circumstances permit.

When questioned, T Clark stated that prior to the race he had discussed the manner in which NEW GLORY should be ridden and it was agreed that it would be best if NEW GLORY was positioned away from the rail as it raced well at its last start when ridden outside the lead.

He said making the first turn when racing in the lead, he was in the order of a length in front of SHAHJEE which was positioned to his inside on the rail.

He said as he was of the belief that the race was being run at a good tempo and having in mind the pre-race discussions with Mr C W Chang, the trainer of the horse, he believed hat it would not be in the best interests of NEW GLORY to attempt to cross SHAHJEE as he would have had to make considerable use of the horse given the fact that the horse was already running at a quick tempo.

A veterinary inspection of LONGWAH SUPREME immediately following the race revealed the horse to have sustained wounds to both stifles.

A veterinary inspection of SUNNY FAY immediately following the race did not show any significant findings.

SHAHJEE and RUMBA KING were sent for sampling.

GENERAL: 1.

After the running of Race 1, the track classification was officially changed from Wet Slow to Good.

This change in the opinion of the Stewards should be recorded as being retrospective.

As a consequence of this, the official results will show Race 1 being run on a track rated Good.

2.

Additional Veterinary Reports from Sha Tin Racemeeting on 17 March 2013 The Veterinary Officer reported that DIAMOND AGATE was found to have a left fore knee fracture after racing.

Subsequent official veterinary inspections (without endoscopy) of BACKSTREET FIGHTER, DOUBLE MOON, GLACIER BLUE, HEARTLAND, BOBO DRAGON, WINNING INSTINCT, PEPPERMINT, PERCY JACKSON, FULL VALUE, VICTORY MASCOT, STERLING CITY, NEW DEERFIELD, BULLISH BOY, LORD DRAGON, JUN JU, GLORIOUS DAYS, AMBITIOUS DRAGON, TIME AFTER TIME, AKEED MOFEED, ENDOWING, VICTORIUS, AEROVELOCITY, METALLIC STAR and BERLINSKI revealed no apparent abnormality.
