Recap by phillip woo

Best-backed late, Prolific Champion settled into the one-out, one-back position, rallied five deep upon straightening and out-dashed Novel Start to take control 50m out to end his winless run with a drop in grade at start number 25. Novel Start settled in the box-seat, shifted outside Samadhi at the 250m and ran on nicely to grab second in the final 50m. Favourite Jazzy Feeling bided his time around midfield and one off the rails, cornered in three-to-four deep and ran on steadily to claim third in the final 30m. Samadhi took the sit outside the leader You Are The One from a wide gate, worked to the front four deep at the 200m and was swamped in the final 50m, despite a drop in grade. Fay Deep settled second from the rear and one off the rails, forced his way into the clear with one wider out approaching the 200m and finished up reasonably well with a move to a tongue-tie. Demon Demon made his run fourth from the back, swung the final bend with two wider and ran on late without menacing. Flying Elite was three deep in fifth, turned final bend with three wider out and kept on one-paced. You Are The One cleared to lead at the 800m, straightened a half-length on top along the rails and was giving ground passing the 200m. Pure Force was patiently ridden third from the rear and one off the rails, turned the final bend widest out and never was a factor.

Racing Incident Report

Race Two: (490)-SAN PO KONG HANDICAP - Class 4 - 1200Metres

On arrival at the barriers, the tongue tie carried by DEMON DEMON was refitted.

When being loaded, TAYSIDE momentarily became fractious, resulting in R Fourie being dislodged.

TAYSIDE was slow to begin.

From the outside barrier, BEAR SUPREME began awkwardly and then was taken across behind runners.

When being steadied to be taken across behind runners shortly after the start, DEMON DEMON was steadied away from the heels of FLYING ELITE which shifted in after being bumped by SAMADHI.

Making the turn near the 1000 Metres, JAZZY FEELING was awkwardly placed close to the heels of PROLIFIC CHAMPION when being shifted across behind that horse.

When being shifted in, JAZZY FEELING bumped TAYSIDE.

After the 800 Metres, FLYING ELITE was left racing wide and without cover.

After the 700 Metres, TAYSIDE became unbalanced when awkwardly placed close to the heels of WEEKEND GIGGLE.

Passing the 200 Metres, PURE FORCE was bumped by FAY DEEP which shifted out from behind DEMON DEMON into clear running.

When questioned, B Prebble stated that he had been asked to ride PURE FORCE with cover in about 4th or 5th position if possible.

He said he had observed that at its most recent start JAZZY FEELING, which tonight had drawn immediately inside PURE FORCE, had been ridden along in the early stages in an attempt to take up a forward position and he anticipated that from the same barrier the horse would again be ridden in a similar manner.

He said as he considered JAZZY FEELING was the obvious danger to PURE FORCE, when that horse was again ridden vigorously out of the barriers, he attempted to shift in behind JAZZY FEELING in the early stages and obtain cover behind that horse.

He said that despite being ridden along, JAZZY FEELING was not able to obtain a forward position, however, by this time he had already committed PURE FORCE to obtain a position behind that horse.

He added when he attempted to shift across behind JAZZY FEELING after the 1100 Metres, FAY DEEP was ridden along to obtain the position to his inside and therefore he had to ride PURE FORCE along in an endeavour to clear that horse and obtain the position behind JAZZY FEELING.

He said near the 800 Metres he was in a position to shift in behind JAZZY FEELING, however, shortly after this DEMON DEMON shifted out and this resulted in PURE FORCE remaining in a three wide position and further back in the field that had been anticipated.

Trainer B K Ng advised the Stewards that he wanted PURE FORCE ridden behind the speed with cover tonight and he felt that this would be in about a midfield position.

He said whilst he was disappointed that PURE FORCE had got further back in the field than he had anticipated, he believed that this was due to the circumstances of the race and that he was comfortable with Jockey Prebble's decision to initially attempt to obtain a position with cover behind JAZZY FEELING in the early stages.

A veterinary inspection of TAYSIDE and PURE FORCE immediately following the race did not show any significant findings.
