Recap by phillip woo

Sensationally-backed at the jump with first-time blinkers, Handsome Batchelor rolled forward from a wide gate to settle second and one off at the 1,400m after dwelting at the start, assumed the front at the 300m and kept finding to score. Favourite Dars Auto settled fifth along the rails, pushed into the clear five deep soon after straightening and had every chance to pull back the winner. The weight swing of 20 pounds was the difference in the end. Ole Ole settled third from the rear and along the inside, angled out approaching the final bend, shifted into the clear with two wider out at the 250m and let down nicely for a placing, along with The Only Kid. Good Thinker quickly cleared to lead from gate 13, turned the final bend a head on top and gave way to lose a placing 20m out. Golden Osmanthus was always prominent to the speed and one off the rails, straightened four deep and was one-paced over the final 200m with a step up in distance and switch to the dirt. Specked late, Kensworth Kid and Chater D'Cat were disappointing fellows. Royal Knight was struggling 300m out.

Racing Incident Report

As the start was effected, WIN ESPRIT lifted its front feet off the ground and consequently was slow to begin.

HANDSOME BATCHELOR began awkwardly.

From the outside barrier, ROYAL KNIGHT was taken across behind runners shortly after the start.

Despite being ridden along in the early stages, HEALTHY BLUEBERRY failed to muster speed and shortly after the start was taken across behind runners.

Approaching the winning post on the first occasion, CHATER D'CAT was steadied away from the heels of DARS AUTO (T Clark) which shifted in when not properly clear.

T Clark was reprimanded.

Near the 600 Metres, DANESOUTH was hampered and taken wider by DARS AUTO which shifted out.

T Clark was reprimanded and advised to ensure he is sufficiently clear when shifting ground in similar circumstances.

OLE OLE was momentarily held up for clear running in the early part of the Straight.

A veterinary inspection of ROYAL KNIGHT immediately following the race did not show any significant findings.

The performance of ROYAL KNIGHT, which finished tailed out, was considered unacceptable.

Before being allowed to race again, ROYAL KNIGHT will be required to perform to the satisfaction of the Stewards in an official barrier trial and be subjected to an official veterinary examination.

After the race, D Whyte (CHATER D'CAT) reported that his mount came under heavy pressure at the 600 Metres to hold its position and gave him the impression that it resented the kickback.

A veterinary inspection of CHATER D'CAT immediately following the race did not show any significant findings.

HANDSOME BATCHELOR and DARS AUTO were sent for sampling.
