Recap by phillip woo

Hong Kong Dancer made his run three back and just off the rails, worked to the lead three deep at the 250m and kept on gamely to narrowly score a maiden win at his sixth start after putting the writing on the wall in two earlier outings. Favourite Principal was posted three deep in midfield from a wide gate, had to avoid a stalling Dashing Super at the 500m, rallied six deep upon straightening and came up just short. Plunged late, King Haradasun was taken back to settled second from the rear and one off the rails, swung the final bend widest out and was hitting the line with purpose to snatch third ahead of the eye-catching debutant Pleasure Gains. It was a good effort off a break and he may be able to enter the winner's circle before seasons end. Pleasure Gains was detached from the field from a wide gate, was more than 12 lengths down upon straightening and came on strongly while also having to steady late off the Quinella pair. He'll have to be labeled a runner to follow for the future on this run and will get further as well. Columbus Line worked to third at the 150m and swamped in the shadows of the post for a placing.

Racing Incident Report

Race Five: (576)-HILLWOOD HANDICAP - Class 4 - 1400Metres

JUN JU was withdrawn on 30.4.13 by order of the Stewards acting on veterinary advice (lame right fore) and was replaced by Standby Declared Starter RISING POWER (Y T Cheng).

Before being allowed to race again, JUN JU will be subjected to an official veterinary examination.

YOUNG TALENT began only fairly.

PROSPERITY AETHON began awkwardly and shifted out towards the heels of ROCKET PROUD.

Shortly after the start, KING HARADASUN was taken across behind runners.

Also shortly after the start, COLUMBUS LINE was struck across the nose by the whip of C K Tong (DASHING SUPER) which was being vigorously ridden along to obtain a forward position.

After this, COLUMBUS LINE was taken across behind runners.

Passing the 1000 Metres, YOUNG TALENT raced tight inside PROSPERITY AETHON which itself was momentarily crowded for room inside ROCKET PROUD which shifted in when awkwardly placed close to the heels of PRINCIPAL.

Passing the 700 Metres, DOUBLE DRAGON was hampered and lost ground when racing behind DASHING SUPER which at this time was giving ground.

After this, DOUBLE DRAGON was shifted to the outside of DASHING SUPER and consequently raced wide and without cover.

T Angland (YOUNG TALENT) pleaded guilty to a charge of careless riding [Rule 100(1)] in that rounding the Home Turn he failed to take sufficient measures to prevent his mount from shifting out, resulting in PROSPERITY AETHON becoming unbalanced when crowded for room inside DASHING SUPER.

T Angland was suspended from riding in races for a period to expire on Sunday, 19 May 2013 on which day he may resume race riding (2 Hong Kong racedays).

The commencement of the suspension was deferred until after the Sha Tin racemeeting on Saturday, 11 May 2013.

Passing the 400 Metres, NOTUS and PRINCIPAL bumped.

For some distance after the 300 Metres, RISING POWER was steadied when disappointed for running between GOOD LUCK WIN and XI YING MEN which shifted out.

After being shifted to the inside of the heels of XI YING MEN passing the 250 Metres, RISING POWER was then awkwardly placed close to the heels of that horse which also shifted in.

In the Straight, YOUNG TALENT got its head on the side and lay out under pressure.

When questioned, Apprentice K C Ng stated that he had been instructed, if possible, to position PLEASURE GAINS in about midfield from the outside barrier.

He said shortly after the start he commenced to shift across with COLUMBUS LINE, however, when that horse was steadied and taken across behind runners, he was obliged to come back further than had been hoped to obtain a position with cover.

He said making the first turn when KING HARADASUN shifted out on his inside, he rode PLEASURE GAINS along to obtain a position behind ROCKET PROUD.

He said for a short distance approaching the 700 Metres PLEASURE GAINS got its head up when awkwardly placed close to the heels of ROCKET PROUD.

He said rounding the Home Turn PLEASURE GAINS commenced to hang out and race greenly and for this reason he changed his whip into his left hand.

He said he rode PLEASURE GAINS along rounding the Home Turn and in the early part of the Straight and the horse commenced to close off the race well.

He said in the Straight he had to find clear running on PLEASURE GAINS between runners and for this reason he was not able to commence using the whip until after the 100 Metres.

He added passing the 100 Metres he positioned PLEASURE GAINS, which was finishing off the race strongly, to take a run between PRINCIPAL and HONG KONG DANCER which was clearly available, however, HONG KONG DANCER shifted out abruptly under pressure and this resulted in the run between those two horses closing.

He said as this incident occurred close to the finishing line, he did not have time to shift PLEASURE GAINS to the outside of PRINCIPAL into clear running.

He said because of this PLEASURE GAINS was held up for clear running over the concluding stages.

A veterinary inspection of DASHING SUPER immediately following the race did not show any significant findings.

HONG KONG DANCER and PRINCIPAL were sent for sampling.
